Hi,

yes, i just got "reading" glasses - very mild prescription the eyeglass place said to use them for anything arms length distance.

Of course i was reading on the internet and some places say their is "different" type of glasses while working on the computer?

just wondering what u all do?

i work ont he computer at work - it is just about arms length away and also i'm always on my 10inch netbook at home.

I had used reading glasses (just from the drugstore) for a while, but I found that my eyes got very tired and very dry. When I went to our eye doctor, he gave me prescription for reading glasses that were actually progressive lenses. They're a "mild" magnification for the computer, and a little stronger at the bottom for reading.

Also, they put an anti-glare coating on them. This was REALLY helpful because it somehow keeps your eyes from drying out or getting tired from the computer. I found it to be a big difference between these and the drugstore ones. I think if you're just using them to read, regular ones would be okay. If you spend most of your time on the computer, you might want to consider glasses w/ an anti-glare coating on them. :goodvibes

thanx,

i guess i should have got the anti-glare as i am on the computer ALOT - guess next time...

thanx -

I think it all depends on just how much trouble you are having on the computer.

I wear progressive lenses normally, since both my near and distance vision are out of whack now. But I can't use the progressives on the computer for any length of time (and I work in the computer industry so I am on the blasted things for 10 hours a day or so). I find that the distance from where I sit to my monitor is too far for the close-in of the reading part of the lens, and too short for the moderate distance part of the lens in the middle - the length is somewhere in between. I also find the "sweet spot" for the close-in reading part of the lenses is too small and too low in the lense for a computer screen - I end up moving my head more than I like to see the different parts of the screen when I prefer to keep my head fairly stationary and just move my eyes around. So I wear regular drugstore reading glasses when I am on the computer right now. Last time I had my eyes checked, he said that was fine as long as it was working for me, but I might need specific computer glasses later, as I also have a slight astigmatism that complicates things.

I got my glasses for reading on the computer....arms distance sight. I also use them frequently for reading when my eyes have trouble with the small type. I don't see why you couldn't use your reading glasses for the computer if it makes it easier.

I spent over $200 for progressive lens. They are for looking at the monitor and for reading. The reading glasses from Walgreen's or Wal-Mart might be okay at first. I used to have a head ache, took a nap, and still woke up with a head ache.

I use the cheap $1 reading glasses all the time on the computer and for reading and have no problems with either. Don't work all day at the computer, but can do several hours at a time. We're all different. I'd say try them and see what happens.

I have this EXACT same situation. I just got a pair of progressive lenses in February. At first, I hated them for the computer because of the head movement thing (I, too, work on the computer for 8 hours a day for my job and actually have dual monitors which meant even MORE head moving!) but I read online that it takes up to two months to get used to wearing them. I stuck it out and now I can't work on the computer without them. I don't even notice myself moving my head anymore.

It's so nice to drive home NOT fighting a horrible headache every day from the eye strain!

Best wishes and I hope the OP finds what works best!
