Can anyone give me any information about the Reading festival?

DD wants to go with her friends. It will be after their GCSEs this summer (maybe just after the results too) and they will all be 16. I'm trying to find out whether it's a family friendly festival or more adult.

Any info appreciated :)

My DD's both went, at different times, aged 17. They said it was fine and well organised.

From my experience it is an OK festival for family but can at times be a bit daunting for anyone not accustomed to festivals, especially younger folk. Security is pretty tight and as long as they are sensible with their stuff they should be fine. There is a mobile charging tent so no need to worry that they cant be contacted!!!

Thanks for the reassuring replies!

KAC - they all have their Duke of Edinburgh Silver awards, so I have no worries about their ability to cope with the day-to-day stuff like camping, feeding themselves, keeping safe, etc. My concerns are more along the lines of young people being seen as an easy target for older festival-goers, if you know what I mean! They are all sensible kids at home but .........

There should be no need to worry, as long as they take al lthe usual precautions they should be fine. There is a bucketload of secuirty roaming the campsite at all hours so risks should be minimal.

Hi Hilary

I agree with the other posters - I did Glastonbury and Reading at 16 and was fine. There's bound to be drug pedalling etc (it was very obvious when I last went which to be fair was 11 years ago so things may have changed!) but if your girls have their heads screwed on (which I'm sure they do :)) they'll be fine. Great fun!

Cheers

hello there its been a while since i have posted on here but im back now. I went to the reading festival when i was 16 and last year when i was 21. Everyone is really friendly as most r there for the music or to just spend the weekend drunk with their friends hehe. Secruity is very good there r posts in each campsite if u have probs, liek was said ealrier the phone recharge tent, but it does get very very very busy same with the cash machines so they will need to be prepared to queue for a while to use them. other than that, it is a very friendly place, but it is always wise to keep ur wits about u as there r some many peopel and so much going on.

Hi

I have never been, but live in Reading so thought i'd offer my 2 penny's! They've really tightened the security in recent years so it's alot safer now, I know last year the big thing was stamping out drugs, and I know alot of arrests were made (it was in the local paper!) I think your DD will be fine, everyone I know who has been have loved it!
If you have any other questions, fire away!

Thanks for the feedback everyone :), it's much appreciated.
