Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all the WDW resort pools offer life vests for the use of guests' children

Yes ~ you are correct. The resorts have free life vests for guest use in all sizes ~ also many of the resort gift shops sell water wings etc...

AJEA ~ I know your post had the best intentions but you added the 'thumbs down' icon at your heading and then proceeded to ask why disney would build a pool like that with a confused icon  ~ of course all you fellow DIS'ers are going to react to you emotions.

My DD8 coulld not swim last year ~ I just put her in a life vest and she could go on her merry way. We stayed at AKL and I felt the pool was too shallow fo adults to have a good swim ~ but it was great for kids.

>>^..^<<

I think its great you posted the information. But I encourage everyone whose kids are too big for the baby pool but too short for the shallow end to have the kids take advantage of the life vests! They offer a lot of freedom, kids can swim all over in them! My daughter has never liked being limited to where she could stand.

Maybe if you had mentioned that yes they have the kiddie pool, but my child doesn't want to be there or something like this, then the kiddie pool would never have been mentioned, at least by me.

I wasn't posting this to be sarcastic, but they do have a kiddie pool and I thought that maybe you might have missed it or something!

Yikes:crazy:
I appreciate the heads up....I don't think anyone was 'biting off anyones head'
... We are staying there at the end of our trip..and this is a good tip. Our pool in our community is 3 1/2 as well..so we 'assumed' this normal. My youngest is 2..and wears waterwings...she wouldnt' be able to touch even if it was only 3 foot anyways..and my oldest can swim... but we do like to hear all aspects of the hotels...
so thank you :)

Could 3.5 feet be a safety issue? I mean, how much more shallow could it be and still be safe for people to jump into? I'm afraid that if they built pools that were 2.5 feet at the shallow end, for example, that people would complain that they are dangerous because you could hit the bottom hard if you jumped in.

Disney is very safety conscious and it wouldn't surprise me if they made the shallow ends 3.5 feet based on studies which suggested this was the optimal depth from a safety standpoint.

As the mom of a 5 year old and one who has been considering CSR on our next visit--I found the information useful. DS started his second year of swim lessons today (2 weeks per year) and I'm sure that even if he catches on to swimming this year he will not be a strong swimmer by spring.

He has worn life jacket for years and I even told him today that if he learned how to swim this week he wouldn't have to wear a life vest next WDW vacation. I need to rethink that in light of the OP comments. I like this kind of information. I think the OP was trying to warn a small group of people (like me) who hadn't thought this through. For that I thank her.

ajea89--welcome to the DIS. It's usually a friendly place but you also have to be careful to play nice. Icons used incorrectly can cause confusion as to your intent.

OK folks - let's keep this on topic - the depth of the pool!

Here is a link to the posting guidelines for the DIS boards, please read them and remember to be nice to each other.

Ajea:

I didn't find your original post offensive at all - thanks for the heads-up.

IMHO, there's nothing wrong with using a "thumbs-down" icon for a message and apparently, I'm not alone in thinking that, given the traffic the "thumbs-down" threads get. Many of us WDW lovers appreciate the constructive criticism and the "heads-up" kind of messages.

I truly believe that if someone doesn't "get" a poster's complaint that - in accordance with the posting guidelines - their best option would be to bypass the thread without offering commentary. Or else, request the moderators to omit the "thumbs-down" icon.

Thanks again, Ajea!

I think Ajea said what she had to say and I think we said all what we had to say to her, I think this post is done, don't you all think so?

Fantasia - well put! This one has pretty much gone as far as it can go...

Do you folks not understand what the following means?

OK folks - let's keep this on topic - the depth of the pool!

Enough is enough - this is over!
