that is SO easy for newbies to say! of COURSE you're not going to feel slighted, your ink isn't even dry yet!!!;)

yes, everyone is entitled to their own feelings on the matter.

I may be new to the DVC world however I am still getting what I paid for and that includes no free dining, discounts etc... why would/should I feel slighted today or 5 years from today. as long as i get my accommodations I am happy.

There's no need to 'name call' ;) ;) and slight the newbe ;)

My ink is dry and my bank account is 20something-k lighter having paid off my DVC and factoring exchange rates of 20-odd percent.

I am sorry you feel the term "newbie" is name calling. It is a common (internet) term meaning "new to something"; i was a newbie at one time too, there is nothing deragatory about the term.
Even knowing then, what I know today, i would still buy DVC. I have more than rec'd my moneys worth over the last 13 years. One can still have the wish to be included in these "deals" knowing full well it will never happen.

i know what newbie means... please take note the ;) 's... I was pointing out simply that you did not need to bring forward I just bought into DVC this year. It has no bearing on whether i should feel slighted on pass costs increases, lack of free dining etc for DVC members.

i originally quoted you as saying "we knew what we were getting in to when we signed on the dotted line". THIS is the point I was making. YOU knew, you just signed....all these deals were already out there to consider whether to buy DVC or not. Back in the late 90s, there were rarely any deals to be had like that. So, yes, you being new to DVC has a huge bearing on whether you would feel slighted or not. You had the opportunity to consider do I want the codes/deals/free dining or do I want DVC where chances are I will never get those same deals. Pass increases are inevitable, dvc or not. That hasn't changed since we've all been going to Disney so that really does NOT have any bearing whatsoever.
Again, not picking on you or anyone else that just bought. I have to wonder, however, for example...10 years from now Disney offers buy one week, get one free (ridiculous, i know ) to non dvcers, would you still say you don't feel slighted? just a thought. At one time free dining was an unthinkable offer but it did happen...so maybe that example isn't so ridiculous!

The first few years after I bought, the big topic on this board was pass discounts for DVC members. At the time, the only discount was 10% on the old "length of stay" passes. We were lobbying to have the 10% extended to AP's or dare to think give us Florida Resident rates. Well DVC came through with the $100 discount on AP's, which at time was about 25% off and close to Florida Resident rates. New members might take that for granted but it was not something members always had.

funny, now u have many who would prefer the 10% on tix, why not both?:rolleyes1

yes, i know, DVC can't please everybody with new policies or percs;)

i lobbied for the DP myself the 1st year. While im still happy to have it as an option; im sorry to see overall decline in the menu offerings...perhaps a case of be careful what u wish for:laughing:

yeh i remember that debbie. We thought we hit the jackpot getting a whole $100 off an AP! That was the best perk since we joined i think. That is one of the reasons I only sold off 2 of my contracts, lol. Be careful what you say about new members though, lol. ;)

I would love a flat 10% off passes for my length of stay ! Ap's don't do me any good.

Like previous posters have said, i don't care that i don't get the free dining, just that it happens to make getting ADRs for us so difficult. they actually have preference in getting ADRs over money-paying guests, that is really not fair. What would be fair is since most of us book 11 mos. out, we should be able to get whatever dining we want (if staying on points) either at that time or at 6 mos., leave the 90 days to the freebie diners and/or non dvc guests. it would hardly hurt them since members are a minority but it would make us feel a little more special, since that feeling seems to have dwindled over the years.

I love this idea..it is a good way to make a DVC member feel special and wouldnt cost disney anything extra and would be easy for them to implement

good thinking!!

Any additional ticket discount option for DVCers who dont want to purchase an annual pass would be great.
I personally would prefer something like a length of stay park ticket for your entire party during a DVC point stay (equivalent to the daily rate of the expiring 10 day Magic Your Way with Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More).

I love the AP discount! what i save on my family for that just about covers my yearly fees

I don't understand. Why would that cause you to sell off 2 of your contracts?

I sold off two contracts because we retired and we bought a motorhome so we could stay at disney longer (with our dog) at fort wilderness. I didn't need all those points anymore. I had considered selling all of it but then they came out with that discount and I need an AP every year and the $100 off is a nice perk. Plus, I can use my points at fort wilderness now with no fee.
So the discount wasn't the reason i sold my points, it was the reason i kept a contract. I don't rule out buying more down the road once my youngest is out of college.

got it, thanks :)

:confused3 You didn't think ticket prices would increase over the years? They always have - and in return Disney grows and expands its entertainment offerings. .

Do they really? They've had a major pavilion in Epcot closed for years now, hardly sounds like investment to me. Sounds like a cash cow to run the rest of the struggling Disney empire.

Regardless, I think the poster was trying to make the point that, given the data, one should logically expect ticket prices to rise, dues & resort operating costs to rise, travel expenses to rise...in fact one should expect all expenses associated with travel to increase over the years.

DVC does not lock in overall costs, it simply prepays your room, except for operating expenses and taxes.
