Re-thinking Shula's this trip

With an upcoming trip planned, I did my usual menu print for several meals, to see if anything has recently changed. The Shula's menu from the S&D website shows that the revered 32 oz. Prime Rib for $38.95 is now a 24 oz. Prime Rib for a whopping $44.95.
Not sure what bothers me more, the price increase or the size decrease. Probably a combination of the two.

There were increases on most steak prices, which could be expected, but a smaller portion of Prime Rib has me seriously rethinking our meal there. They made a similar change on the souffle size a while back, which was disappointing, but Prime Rib is a major factor for why we like to dine there.

So, just an FYI, price change (and quantity change) at Shula's (according to the S&D website menu).

Whoa, that is a lose/lose situation. For that kind of money I’d prefer to eat at one of the other steakhouses I enjoy in the Orlando area e.q. Capital Grille, Ruth’s Chris, or Texas de Brazil.

I have respect for a restaurant which increases the price (decreasing the quantity is the same as a price increase) rather then lowering their quality. I don't know how many guests shared the 32oz prime rib but lowering the quantity to reduce sharing might make some sense. Shula's used to impose a sharing charge but I believe that policy no longer applies (at least in their Orlando location).

i just checked it out too.

looks like most entrees went up $2. The Steak Mary Anne, the Filet, the Porterhouse, the Surf & Turf went up $2. The 48oz went up $5.

the appetizers that we get (crab cake and french onion soup) didn't change.

i'm not going to let $4 scare us off :) it's the best meal!! i've read several articles about companies losing money because of the restaurant dot com coupons. shula's takes not only those, but tables in wonderland. i know it's not much, but over time it adds up--and can totally see why they may inflate a bit.

:offtopic: Why do many restaurants participate in this program if that's the case! I don't get it!

Because it drives volume. They need to fill the seats (to help pay the overhead and labor), even if they make a little less from the restaurant.com guests.

The price hike definitely bothers me more than the reduction in size. 24 ounces of beef is still ... what ... six or seven servings of meat? (I think the recommended serving size for beef is three to four ounces.) It stings to be hit with the higher price and smaller portion at the same time, though.

Personally, I feel the quality there will still outweight the alternative options and would go for it.

Just wondering?????
Do these prices include any sides with the meats or are they all a la carte?
If prices are solely for the meat than the change in price and size seem a little bit extreme...JMHO....

by the price increases, if fact they were long overdue. Beef costs have gone up 38% in the past 12 months and pork is not far behind.

Will they go back down at the restaurants once costs go down? Not likely....we still buy beef to grill at home but have had to cut way back :(
