Short version of LONG story....
My babysitter/ really good friend is a wonderful person with a big heart. She wants to take twins, who are 8, to Disney in 6 weeks while the sales are good!
(Quick Story about the twins... a boy & a girl... born to very young parents...
their dad has been in and out of correctional facilities ALL his life... their mom, crack addict & also in jail. Being raised by paternal grandparents (I have known them for over 20 yrs... not my choice in "good" role models.) GF is a real alcholic and the GM is one of those people who cheats the gov't and lives in welfare, uses the kids money for BINGO etc...)
I found my friend a great deal for 4 nights/ 5 days via West Jet, including Disney resort, park hoppers and air fare/taxes included.
The grandmother was going to write a letter to send with her... stating permission to take kids to Disney and dates to be gone, kids full names & DOBs, contact info for herself... etc.
She, however, states she CAN NOT pay a lawyer to notarize it and will send it as is. I have always had a letter from my 1st DD dad but NEVER had it notarized and never had a problem.
Do you think she'll have an issue if it isn't notarized? GM says they can't go if she has to pay a lawyer!
Help?
Advice?

It probably won't be a problem.

But just, and only just, to make it stress free why doesn't your friend pay the $40 to notarize. If that would make it stress free in the end.....

It's a nice story that the children are going. I hope they have a fantastic time.

All the best,

Lisa

We didn't have to get a letter notarized to take my little brother with us to Florida all that happend is his mom wrote the letter stating my dad could take him and that was it.

Same here over the years when we took nieces and nephews and it probably won't be a problem at all. I've never got a notorized note either. Asked once though !!!!! Because it is what they will tell you if you phone about crossing with other people's children. And of course most of us haven't taken that step and sometimes haven't even been asked. A couple of years ago took my niece ...not even asked for our note.

However, these children are not related. Maybe it will all just be passed by but if the OP's friend is nervous about it in the least bit it would be worth the $40 to me. Even though it is unreal that she should pay it. But that's life, eh? Sometimes have to take the bull by the horn, despite all her goodwill, for everything to be done with less stress.

One thing to remember is that if the children require medical attention for any reason when they are in Florida will require a notarized letter from the legal guardian.

This is true for U.S. citizens tavelling with non related minors as well. I think you should be able to do a search on the family board and find info about this and first hand cases of people needing the notarized letter when grandparents took children and then need to take them to the hospital.

Leagaly it doesn't have to be notorized, but it does make the process quicker.
If you are concerned about the money my guy will do it for 25.00
