Re: Should I bring a stroller for my 6 year old?

The heat in FL in July/Aug can be exhausting. We still bring a stroller for DD7 in the summer months. She has asthma and tires easily in the heat & humidity. Little DD is still in one too.

Heck, I would ride in one if someone would push me. Think DH would push a triple????

On our first family trip, our girls were just a few months shy of 7 and 4. We rented a double in the park every day. There was no way we could've taken that trip without a stroller, and we're no touring commandos. On our next trip (in just a few weeks!), the girls will be just a month shy of 10 and 7. I bought a Maclaren Volo on ebay for the youngest for a good price. Luckily, she's under 40 pounds so this is still an option for us, and we are driving so I'll just throw it in the back.

Don't let anyone shame you into not using a stroller. WDW is HUGE, so much bigger than DL. It will be HOT. There will be lots of people. If having your child in a stroller, well-rested, safe and secure (and hey - a spot for your stuff too!) feels right to you, do it. If you see it as a hassle and would rather go slower and take breaks, that's your call too. Whatever works best for you. Have a great trip!

:tink: 31 Days 'til our next trip!

I say bring it. If she doesn't need it, you can leave it in the room or park it in stroller parking and get it at the end of the day.

You get the added benefit of being able to haul stuff around the airport in it if you're flying, being able to use it to get to the Disney busses (or to your resort, if you're on the monorail loop or in an Epcot resort -- this is priceless if she's sleeping at the end of a long day).

I have measures us walking up to 9 miles a day at Disney and that's a LOT for little feet.

We are bringing one for our 5 1/2 yr old this upcoming trip;) I would much rather have it then not.

I have always been amazed on these boards how this issue can be so big for people.

I will be renting a double stroller in Sept for my kids who will be 8 & 6.

Yes, they are healthy. DD7 (will be 8) plays on a travel soccer team with games and practices 4-5 nights/week. DS6 plays tball and soccer. They NEVER use strollers anywhere else but WDW. However, it is very hot in FL in Sept and I want them to enjoy themselves, not be overtired, and be able to have a bit of shade - and gasp! even a place to nap if they choose to while we are at the park.

I am not ashamed and pretty much will say it to anyone who has a problem with it.

This is personal preference - people can (and should, when asked) give their opinions on what they would do and why --- but at the parks people can be so mean and rude to parents with older kids who are in strollers. Giving your opinion on what you would do and why is soooo different than making a judgment on people who choose differently than you do.

Good luck. For us, it's worth it. I rent at the parks so I don't have to carry them on and off the bus - the kids can make the walk from the stroller place to the bus stops and to the rooms (and did so even when they were 3 and 5), but within the parks - we find it helpful.

r u tired at the end of a disney day YES... well so is your kid..bring it.. i always feel sorry for the dad or mom lugging a 4 yr old whos whiney and sooo tired at dinner.. their hair all sweaty and stuck to them while the parents eat.. sooo sad..its not a big deal bring rent after 1 or 2 in afternoon if you dont want to bring with,,,

My just turned 6 DS stopped using a stroller in real life around the age of 3 but will still use a stroller when we go to Disney.

We don't own a stroller anymore, so we rent at the parks. Because of the price, we thought about just buying one...but we decided not to. We like the Disney strollers. We get a double for the extra room it gives him. No stroller I can buy would give him that much room. In fact, I doubt that he'd even fit in a regular stroller.

He isn't in the stroller the whole time but it's there when he needs. It gives him a place to decompress between rides and attractions, too. He gets overstimulated very easily, so having a place for him to relax and listen to his music was just what he needed to stay calm.

I've also been waffling about renting a stroller. If we were to do so, I'd rent one at the park - we don't need one all the time - just those days that we'll be at the parks from dawn till dusk lol. DD6 hasn't used a stroller probably since she was 3, but we did rent one when we took the kids to Cedar Point 2 years ago. It was a godsend - great for carrying drinks, backpacks, etc.. as well as a respite for our daughter when she got tired. Particulary at the end of the day, when we're all tired and cranky, I can see it coming in handy!

2 years ago, DH stood next to a man on the Ferry leaving MK who was "carrying" his sleeping daughter. She had to be 6 or 7 and that poor man was struggling and looked misserable. After we got off the Ferry, DH said we will be taking a stroller as long as possible.
