? re: parking at MK or Poly?

Ok now let's not go there! My original question was based on the fact that the CM who was doing our dinner ressie said that we could go to the Poly and then take the monorail to MK. I thought after I hung up and thought about it that she must have been assuming that we were using the ME, which we are not. So I just wanted to clarify that unless we are residents OF the Poly and not just 'on site' guests we can't go ahead and just park there for an extended period of time.

I wasn't starting the thread to see if I could 'get away' with anything!! Or start a debate over it!

For some people they have done it with no problems and were just letting me know their experience.

Besides that...and just an opinion, don't these hotels usually have more than enough parking spaces to accomodate not only all of their guests but most likely for staff and visitors who are coming and going to use their restaurants? So I find it somewhat hard to believe that people who park there and are not 'guests' staying at the Poly (or any of the other resorts) are taking anything away from the staying guests. It's just asphalt. :confused3

Not like swimming in the pool with last year's refillable mug!
I can't speak for the Polynesian, but I can for the Contemporary. On previous vacations we have had to park way in the back, which is not that great after a long day. I know part of it is because people who like to eat dinner at Chef Mickey's, Concourse Steakhouse or the California Grill. However there are quite a few people who like to park there & walk on over to the Magic Kingdom, which is not allowed. Also if you look at an overhead picture of the Contemporary parking lot, you can see that it's not the biggest parking lot in WDW. So when you they have a lot of people parked for the restaurants, having people parked there who are not guests just so they can go to the Magic Kingdom takes up a lot of spaces. This past month my family & I were lucky because everynight we returned we got some great parking spots, however like I just said it was luck. So that is why some people were saying not to park at the Polynesian & go to the Magic Kingdom.

That's why they have guest space, that's where you are directed and that's where you go.
That is something I wish the Contemporary would have & I hope one day they have spaces for Resort guests only.

To the OP....this is not directed at you, you seem to be intent on doing 'the right thing'.
To those of you who feel that if you can get away with it, what's the harm....how would you feel if you had spent $350 a night to stay at a deluxe resort (don't care which one, any of them!!). When you get back to your resort parking lot, you have to park way the heck out in the hinterlands of the parking lot, rather then closer to the front, because those non-guests have parked there. You know, the ones who feel entitled to the spot because they are paying to eat there, or to shop there, or worse yet...to eat and then go to a park for the rest of the day. I'm sorry, but when I had my ds drop me off at BW last Nov, we had to walk a huge distance in the parking lot. It wasn't all that busy either. When I asked the CM at the front desk when I checked in if the resort was full, she told me no, not even close, why? I asked about the number of cars there, and her answer? 'come back first thing in the morning and you'll see a huge difference. those are the people that want to go to Epcot and MGM after eating at BW.' So, you see...it does impact those that have paid for the right to park there.

So, can you get away with it? Sure. But that doesn't make it right. I am not the morality police here...do what you want. But it really irks me when I see posts here encouraging people to do something that isn't truly right.

That's the point.
-same with pool hopping
-or jumping in front of people at the last minute for a parade
-or holding spaces in line, while your wife and kid go on another ride
-or not canceling your ADR's
-or double booking ADR's

Just ask yourself... are you part of the problem, or part of the solution?

Can you imagine though, if everyone started doing the right thing and doing all of the above things...the dis boards would have nothing to talk about!! :lmao:

Not saying it's ok, just making an observation. ;)

What exactly am I getting away with? Getting a parking spot at a restaurant I'm having dinner at?

Does that really bother you? Have you ever paid $350 a night at a deluxe and had to park way in the back because ALL the other spots were filled with non-quests? Or are you just speculating?

What if you have to park in the back because the lot is filled with other resort guests? Does that make your walk any shorter than if its filled with non-quests? And you also assume, that every non-guest is parked in the front spots. Is it not possible to park in the back, out of the way of everyone else? Personally, I don't park right in front if I'm not staying at that resort. But then again, I don't base the quality of my vacation on the spot I get in the parking lot.

You are breaking the rules, if you go to the MK after dinner.

What are you getting away with? -
Setting a bad example for your kids. That's how it starts...

If was just going for dinner, I would probably just park at the poly. But then again I also could park at the TTC. The poly and the TTC are right next to each other. You maybe only have to walk about 1/4 of a mile from the TTC to the poly. When I was down to Disney in Dec of 05 I saw some security personel checking the parking permits from the hotel. I would think that they see the guests with the permits from the hotels, and see the one's from another hotel. Yes granted they probably look at it and say "ohh there having dinner here". After that point what I would do it I would check on those cars from time to time and see if it's there after a certein part of time, if it's still there after that certain amount of time they allow then I would tow it away. If they do have a rule about that parking I would not even risk getting towed away. To each there own and it's all about having fun while your there. But if it was me I would just park at the TTC and do the 5 minute walk to the Poly, just because they are right next to each other. You have a better chance of getting back to your car by taking the Ferry to the TTC then the resort monorail, just because they can get so packed at times. Especally when the MNSSHP ends.
