Has Rich Papura and Gary the Guitar Guy done every Magic voyage for the last two years or is it just a coincidence that I saw them on the April 2 cruise and eighteen months before (Nov. '03)?

I saw the Rich Papura 10:15 (adult act) both times. I thought he was really funny in 2003, but his act has barely changed, if at all. I can understand Disney showing the same Musicals, because obviously a lot goes into them, but how hard is it to recruit some new comedy acts?
:sad2:

dont forget Michael Harrison....another DCL regular I must have seen 200 times.....

I agree with you 100%

:confused3 Gosh...I am SO with you guys on this one!!!!

Being that I've been on 5 DCL cruises, I knew I would see some of the same stuff, but when it gets to the point that you begin to learn the monologues, dances etc. I think its time for a change up. I don't know about anyone else, but man oh man, I am tired of the John Travolta/Gloria Gaynor lipsync contest!!

The shows are alot of work, so I understand keeping them around, but some of the stuff could use alittle tweeking. Just my opinion though....won't stop me from going though :rotfl2:

All Disney all the time baby!!!!

the odd thing is.....

DCL, knowing that a large % of their bookings are past cruisers, why dont they keep the cabaret acts fresh by changing them often....???? You would also think that dance contests et al would be easy to change....

This happens with all cruiselines. We cruised on the Carnival's Fantasy a year apart and had the exact same shows. We have been on Carnival's Imagination
three times and same exact shows. It didn't matter if it was in the large showroom or just the one man act. I suppose they think people won't remember who we saw--but we do. On DCL I think the comics could update their acts with new material. One comic on the very first 7 day cruise is now playing Raven's father on "That's So Raven." He was funny, too bad he isn't still preforming stand up. Kathy

The obligatory "stateroom toilet flush" joke is a DCL classic....

OMG! I think I heard that flush joke from every comedian on the 4/2 cruise along with the jokes about the cramped staterooms. What kills me is that people still laugh.

As far as other cruise lines having the same problems, my guess is that the comedians are exchanged at the common ports. One leaves the magic at St. Maarten and boards another line, etc. And vice versa.

It's high time they all recruit some new acts.

I hate to agree because I love Rich Purpura and Michael Harrington BUT enough already. I would watch them over and over again if they would just change their routine. Both did the exact same show all three cruises, each a year apart. I bet if all return cruisers got together we all could come up with the entire routine word for word. For new DCL cruisers you will love Rich and Michael, I laughed so hard the first time I saw them I hurt.

There's no way I could sit through it again though which means either find alternatives (none of which interested me on prior cruises) or find another cruiseline. One of the reasons we love going on a cruise is that we don't get a chance to go out as a couple at home. When we are on the ship we enjoy going to the club after the main show at night and also with the kids after dinner before the main show. It's a big part of the cruise to us and hopefully by this Nov. the entertainment or routines will be different.

Is Michael Harrington the ventriloquist with the talking tennis ball? He wasn't on the April 2. He may have been replaced for this trip with Freddy Fusion. Is Freddy a regular?

Does anyone know how to contact DCL to suggest these changes? The two lines on the bottom of the debark comment card is hardly sufficient.

I too am tired of the deja vu with the comedians. However, I don't mind Glorida Gaynor/John Travolta because it's different people playing them every time. I love seeing different guests in those roles! But for the "regular" acts, I would really like to see some variety. As others have pointed out, DCL has so many repeaters now that they need to start rotating the cabaret acts.
