Re-booking while on board

I've heard that there are some great offers for booking your next cruise while on board. We'd love to take advantage of these and book our next cruise, but I'd hate to have to come up with $800 in addition to all the money I'm sure we will spend on the current cruise!

Is there a "grace period" for putting down the deposit or do you have to pay that when booking?

As far as I know you have to put down the deposit when you book the cruise. I know we did. Some people on this board have talked about only booking the cabin for 2 people and then adding the other 2 at a later date. This way you only have to put down $400 at that time and then the other $400 when you add the 2 on. And as far as I know the only deals you get when booking on board is the early booking rate (depending on when you are going) and the $200 on board credit for each stateroom. Now, if there are deals out there then the person on board who books your next cruise will certainly know about them. We booked on board and then I transferred our reservation to Dreams Unlimited because I know they will watch for possible price decreases. BTW, in case you are not of aware of this, the $200 deposit is for the 3 or 4 day and the 7 day is a deposit of $250 per person.

1. If I book on board, then transfer the ressie later to another travel agent, how do I ensure I keep the $200 credit?

2. My cousin's family will be going on DCL for the 1st time next year. Can I book for them while onboard? Will they get the $200 credit? Can the dates be changed (& still keep the credit)?

3. Is there a limit to the # of cabins you can book & get the credit on every cabin (ie., if I want to book 2 cabins for me & 2 for my cousin)?

You should be able to keep the credit. When I transferred to DU they knew I had the $200 credit and it is still on my reservation with them. Just make sure whatever TA you transfer to knows that you have the ship board credit.

Yes, you can book for your cousin's family while onboard and they will get the credit. We booked cabins for my parents and DH's parents and all 3 cabins have the shipboard credit. Even if you change the dates you still get the credit. We changed from June to March after getting back home. One thing, if you book cabins for your family just remember you will have to put down the deposit when you book.

3. Is there a limit to the # of cabins you can book & get the credit on every cabin (ie., if I want to book 2 cabins for me & 2 for my cousin)?

As far as I know, there is not a limit to the number of cabins you can book and still get the credit. The family in front of us booked 5 cabins and each one of them had the ship board credit.

One last thing, I liked booking on the ship because the cruise advisor has the ability to check all the dates that may have a specific cabin open. We were looking for a Cat 1, 2, or 3 for 2004 and she was able to pull up all the dates that these categories were available.

We booked onboard (March 29, Magic) for next year. Just two of us. Deposit required at the time of booking was $500. Donna asked if we would like to transfer our reservation to the same travel agency (DU), she transfered our reservation to DU, we get our $200. credit and by the time we returned home we had e-mail from DU confirming our reservation.

If you are thinking of rebooking on "our" cruise for a future sailing in order to get the onboard credit, keep in mind that if you are able to secure a FL Resident rate you will have to forfeit the onboard credit. DCL will not combine the two.

In many cases, the FL res rate is much more that the 200 credit.

The only thing that I don't understand with DCL is why you can't get the rate regardless of what you book under. I have for the last 3 years actually gotten a Florida res. rate AND an onboard credit- how come this year I can't???
