Re-assigning/refunding tickets?

Hope someone here is smart and kind enough to help with this question--I'm getting conflicting info from Disney people.

Family of seven, 4 "adults," 3 kids. Purchased 10-day tickets to start on 12/30. Now of course with COVID these expire on 9-26-2021. I know that we can choose to break this up into 2 5 day vacations if we want--we might have to with our job situation. Here's what I'm wondering though--suppose we use 8 of the days in our original time frame and everybody has 2 days left on their passes, but we have to come back earlier because of COVID. We probably won't all come from NY for another trip to use up those two days. What are my options with those remaining days?

Specifically:
  • can I get refunded?
  • can I get the expiration date extended to another time when we might come back (in a year or two)?
  • BEST OPTION: can the remaining days be re-assigned within my family so my wife and I can come back on our own while kids are at summer camp and use the remaining 14 days of admission which were originally spread across the whole family? I see a "reassign" button on the app now, but not sure if that disappears once we first enter the park.
  • Any other options I'm not thinking of?

Once a day on a ticket has been used it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Another thing you would need to keep in mind is I believe once a day on a multi-day ticket has been used you have a limited window to use the remaining days (10 day tickets are 14 days if I remember correctly.) I know they extended the expiration of tickets due to covid but I think that just applies to the start date unless maybe someone used their ticket before the park actually closed and they had more time left. I could be wrong on that but can't find more specific info.

this is frustrating--I heard this from one person at Disney but have specifically heard otherwise from other people there. Wish there was clarity.

While not officially stated anywhere, I believe the extended tickets can be used at any time before the 9/26/2021 expiration -- one visit or multiple. The wording of the ticket expiration implies that, though I don't think anyone has quite tested it yet. Someone may have been able to make park reservations at different times, though, which would indicate the tickets can be used at different visits.

Do you have a package? If so, you should be able to adjust the number of days on your tickets. Be aware, this may remove the extension and give you a set window for the new length of ticket.

If they are standalone tickets, you can ask nicely, but I expect for the hypothetical you described the extra 2 days would be lost for those who do not return to use them. I believe that is also the case for folks who have unused days remaining from trips in March that were cut short by the closure - they have until 9/26/2021 to use the remaining days. If I were you, I'd do my best to plan a trip(s) with everyone that will use the tickets up.
