My telus mobile will not work in the US but I have an old Virgin mobile that I bought in Buffalo last winter. Would I be able to re-register that phone, get a $10 card and use that in Orlando? Please advise.

We're doing the same thing.
You can't load the phone with a canadian credit card. You have to pick up a phone card when you are in the states and then load online or by phone from there.
HTH!

Boy, does this sound familiar. I need to reload my Tracfone by Monday, and I can't do it on line or by phone as they do not accept Canadian Credit Cards. I know you can reload from the computer a new card (I already did this), but now I have to get to the U.S. this weekend to buy a card to reload and keep my phone active.

We reactivate our phone when we need it. We don't bother reloading every specified # of days. We end up with a new # when we reactivate but we don't spend money on it otherwise.

I pay my Virgin mobile phone with paypal which is attached to a Canadian credit card.

In 2004 my Telus phone and 2-way radio worked while in Disney. I was calling guys at work on the 2-way rubbing it in. The phone screen changed from Telus to Nextel when I got to the States.
Has something changed?
We were planing on keeping in touch with my aunt who is going to be there the same week as us this year. She's staying at CSR and we are at POR and thought the 2-ways would be a great way to stay in touch.

Chris.

I also have a Telus phone. It works in Orlando, but you will be paying roaming charge. If you call your aunt, you will be paying romaing to call her and she will be paying roaming to receive your call in Orlando.

Telus, Bell, Solo, and Virgin PREPAID accounts will NOT work within the USA. Well not without some special steps taken in the case of Bell and Solo but it's more of a hassle then it's worth. Rogers prepaid WILL work, no extra steps needed. Postpaid (contract) phones will all work in the USA but as mentioned above will charge you roaming as well as long distance.

Many American carriers such as Virgin Mobile USA will not accept a Canadian credit card per say but will accept paypal linked to a Canadian credit card so this is how you can get around it. I have my Virgin set to "auto top-up" my phone very 90 days from my paypal account, no issues for over 2 years. It has been my experience even though I have a Canadian phone that will work in the US that it's much cheaper to use this Virgin phone for calls home as well as calls in and around the US. I even have it set-up as an Orlando number as it's primary use is in WDW.

Hope this helps.

I love the paypal idea, but I couldn't see how Tracfone would accept it. It looks like they only take regular credit cards for payment. Rats!

Will the 2-way radio part of the phone be as expensive as using the phone with the roaming charges?
The 2-way up here is miles cheaper to use then the phone and I was hoping it would be the same down there.

we got a trac phone for $19.00 at k mart,,if you go to walbreens this week you can get a virgin flip phone for $9.99 if you get a $30.00 card its last 90 days so its not bad,,its in this weeks on line flier,,go to walgreens ,com,
