Has anyone been successful with the RCI "Wait List"? I tried booking a year out (last week) for a trade with RCI at 4 different regions in the US and more than a dozen resorts for any one of 3 weeks next summer(2010) and all I was told nothing was available but we can put you on the wait list. As soon as something comes available, we will automatically book it for you. I was looking for 2 (2 bedroom) condos and if on the wait list, I could possible get one but not both. That doesn't really help the rest of my family trying to go on vacation with us. They kept saying you are not letting the system work for you.

They said the RCI members do not give up their points for at least 6 or 7 months prior to the date you might be looking for.
Has anyone "Let the system work for you" and been successful?

If I tried this same thing with Interval International, I would have been able to come up with at least one location for our vacation. It currently says you can book up to 2 years in advance. How can you if nothing is available?

I have. Was on the RCI waitlist for 2 different properties in Mexico. Got my request after about 3-4 weeks. :thumbsup2 Our trip is in 7 months and I think I started the process about 9-10 months ago.

I am also on a waitlist. Have a 4 week block that we can go for a 2 BR. It is Prime season and a limited resort. Also RCI doesn't start booking until 11 months out at this property. I have requested Mid July throught first two weeks of August for a 1 week block.

Technically the 11 month window doesn't even open up til next week so I don't expect to hear anything for a while. Was told to give it unilt about 6 months before and if I don't hear anything by then it is unlikely that I would get what I was looking for.

This is the first time I have tried to book with RCI and never tried before with II since we were fairly new owners.

I am in the process of becoming an owner and am looking at using points in 2011 for a reunion vacation we are planning in Punta Cana.

I am not at all familiar with the RCI process but am I reading that you may have to go on a wait list for a RCI property?

Is there somewhere that outlines the process for dealing with RCI when using DVC points?

Something sounds fishy. Did you give them limited choices for resorts and time or are you looking for very high demand time? It was possible with II to request 2 or nothing, not sure about RCI. What and where are you looking for? Will a 3 BR be enough instead of two 2 BR units?

I would say that most options with RCI have come and gone inside the 12 month window. There are some, like Hilton, that tend to be shorter. Bluegreen is 10-11 months out, many are actually 2 years. Those in the RCI points program are 10 months out when they come on board. I haven't traded DVC points but have used RCI a lot in the last few years. IF I were at 6-7 months out without a confirmation and could not ride until the 45 day window, I'd be very worried.

There are only 2 resorts on the DVC list in Punta Cana, DR. Both are all inclusive ONLY. One has 1 BR units only and the other only hotel units from what I can see. I see quite a few units for these 2 resorts on RCI. DR is one place you can almost always get better deals on cash than using points. It wouldn't be surprising if you could get the room, AI and air without using DVC for less than just the AI and air using DVC points. You'd be far better off buying less points and not looking at the exchange option.

RCI is mostly a wait list system on the weeks side and a direct reservation system on the RCI points side. Ask a guide to send you more info. Ask them for the 2007 II audit done in June, 2008, it will give you a feel for the system even if a different exchange company. If they don't seem to know what you're talking about or if they can get it or not, email me and I can send it to you when I get home from Vegas. You can also go on RCI.com and click on the link for about RCI at the bottom. Once you're done with that, click on the HELP tab at the top right and explore the info there.

I think I may take the 24 month plunge and put in for Zihau, Mexico for Dec. 2011 at Club Intrawest. Please send pixiedust: I know I have a few months to wait. :hyper:

Since you obviously have a great interest in exchanging, esp to MX, why not look into buying something for exchanging. Now is a great time to do so. The Marriott in Cancun should open in a couple of years, MX is easy to trade for in general and it'd give you so many more options at a much reduced cost.

Really? :confused3 I know nothing about other timeshares. I guess I could look into buying Club Intrawest in Zihua? :surfweb:

My understanding is that CI does not have home resort priority. That a point is a point no matter which resort. CI would not be my first choice and MX is generally easy to trade to so you may want to look at other options. Spend a few months getting aquainted and figuring out what's best for you. Don't let the fact you don't know other timeshares deter you from finding out what's best for you.

We did...We were put on a wait list Jan of 09 for a week during the summer of 2010 between June 1 and the middle of August for Hershey PA. We just got confirmation last week that we received our dates...June 25 to July 2 which works out perfect for us because then we can visit family near Pittsburgh for the 4th of July holiday. :woohoo:

I deposited my week for my Tennessee Timeshare as soon as it was available to be deposited, RCI had it up for rent the next day. I think something doesn't sound right. I went online this week and looked at what was available for rent in the areas that I wanted to go to, I was amazed. I don't think that I am going to give them another week. I will give it to II.
