Hi. I have a trade out reservation through RCI that we made back in January. At the time I did not take the travel insurance, had a quote #, wrote it down and promptly misplaced it.

I called MS and they gave me the number to Travel X insurance. So I called them and they said they don't handle RCI trip insurance after the trade is complete and the RCI resort booked. They advised me to try going directly through RCI.

Anyone out there know if that's the way to go, or if I can even purchase the insurance at this time?

Any info is appreciated.

I think the only way to know for sure is to call RCI directly...especially since the answer might depend on the details of your exchange.

If you don't have any luck with RCI, try calling Travel Guard. They might be able to help. You might also check over on TUG for suggestions.

Okay, I called RCI, and they rerouted me to DVC, who told me that my only option for travel insurance on my trade out was with TravelX and they would only let me purchase it at the time of booking my trip, so I have no option to purchase travel insurance for this trip that's 200 days away.

That may be the only DVC/RCI option, but there may be other avenues. I know that Travel Guard insures timeshare vacations (used to insure DVC). I would give them a call before giving up.

As a rule this type of insurance is not a good deal. Unless you are particularly high risk for something happening, I would just take the risk personally.
