This is directed to anyone is a member of the full RCI points site because they own a timeshare outside of DVC. There are currently points weeks for almost every week of the summer available at Saratoga Springs. All 1 bedroom units. In the last 4 years, I've never seen so many! And they are at 2 different point prices. The lower price units must be booked and paid for immediately. The higher priced unit can be held for 24 hours before booking and payment. Does anyone know why there are 2 price points? At first I thought it was non-preferred vs preferred locations. But, I'm not sure due to the fact that the lower priced units can't be held. Can anyone shed some light on this?

My guess is that the units are coming from different inventories. For example, perhaps the lower priced (discounted) villas come from Disney-owned inventory and the higher priced units from member deposits to RCI or vice versa. Just a guess.

DVCMC often estimates breakage, so perhaps some of that is also involved. Don't really know.

A higher price for a whole 24 hours? That seems very strange. But no, I don't know why that would be.

If 1BR are in such hot demand that they require to increase the lockoff premium to discourage members to book them, why DVC deposits so many 1BR into RCI?

Sorry to hijack your thread, I couldn't resist.
From what I understand, 1 BR's are always the last to rent. Especially if they are only 1 Bath.

Most here would agree with that as it's what we've seen for most resorts year after year. DVC has stated that 1BR's are higher demand than 2BR's and that is why they were justified to increase the points for them in the attempted 2020 point chart change.

I have not seen anything but SSR 1BRs in RCI inventory for probably a few years. I have multiple "old" searches and have not had anything but SSR 1 BRs hit. I use to be able to get 2brs at just about anywhere including BLT, BCV and BWV all the time...but that luxury is a distant past :(

@moreisgood, So ... did you snag one? :mickeybar

I'm in RCI Weeks, so didn't see the value differences ... but did confirm one of the two I put on hold. Whoo-hoo!

I thought about it, but I already have a 2 BR 2 BA booked, outside of Disney, for 1/2 the price. I thought about cancelling, but between the cancellation fee, and going down to a smaller unit, plus Disney's charge to RCI members, I decided that it wasn't worth it. Nice to see all those units available, though, and I'm sure lots of people are very happy!

There is a change in DVC Seasons for the dates that are available. A couple of them are for May/Early June. The other are for end of July/Early August. There is a DVC points difference for these dates that is probably playing into the difference in RCI points cost.

When I looked, there were 20 weeks available (all on points), and the same exact dates were different prices. The lower priced reservations couldn't be held for 24 hours - only booked immediately.

I wonder if it has anything to do with preferred vs nonpreferred at SSR?

That's all I could guess at, but the difference in being to hold them seemed to work into it. And in WEEKS, there was apparently no difference at all.

The reason for that one type can be put on hold and the other can’t is that it’s two different types of inventory within rci. Weeks inventory can be held for 24hours or until end of next business day. Points inventory can’t be put on hold.

Weeks inventory cost $239
Points inventory cost $209

DVC gets to decide if a deposit is weeks or points.

IMO the reason for the points deposits to cost less points and $$ is that you need to decide now. With the weeks deposits you have 24 hours to decide.

On the other hand you have a grace period of 24 hours after payment for each to cancel and get your money back. That way you can pay for the cheaper option and still think about it for 24 hours.

And I believe that is exactly the explanation! Thank you, Cyberc1978!
