DH and I are thinking of trading out to RCI to go somewhere different than Disney. I know what are we thinking?!?!?!:lmao: But I'd like a little change so I'm not worried about what a poor value it is...yadda yadda...popcorn::

Did you trade out to any of the RCI resorts??! If so, which ones did you like and which ones did you not like?? Why??? Also what is there to do in the area?? Honestly I have no idea where I wanna go or what I wanna do. I just wanna do something different. :confused3

Best way to use points if not staying at a Disney Resort is to rent out your points, then use the rental income to purchase a stay WHEREVER you want to go. Cruise, Hotel Resort, etc.. They are currently renting around $12 a point. It is hard to get anything comparable to Disney through a trade in RCI. The Grand Mayan Riviera Maya is truly wonderful though. But it is still cheaper to rent out you points, then rent from a Grand Mayan owner directly. Disney points are worth a lot on the rental market.

I have traded via RCI (not with DVC) for 10 years.

Loved:
Waterside by Spinnaker at Hilton Head (traded 2X and bought one)
there are a number of other nice HHI properties, mostly townhouse style, but we like Waterside the best.
Smugglers Notch in VT
HGVC in Hawaii on the Big Island (all are fine). Bay Club is the oldest, but recently remodeled. Bay Club does not get free access to the HIlton pools.
Greensprings and Governor's Green in Williamsburg, VA--great family trip in the summer with Willliamsburg, Jamestown, WAter Country and Busch Gardens.
Petit Crest Villas in Big Canoe, GA--rustic cabins, but great area and very nice golf course, lake, indoor spa, pools amenities.

Did not like:
Presidential Resort in Myrtle Beach--there are several names, all in the same TS area.
Patriots Place (?), Kingstown (?), and Powhatan at Williamsburg.
several different resorts in the Poconos

I traded into HGVC@Flamingo in Las Vegas and loved it! The resort is in the middle of the strip behind the Flamingo. I also have reservations at Maui Lea at Maui Hill(Maui) and Kona Coast Resort 2(the Big Island) in Hawaii for 2014. I picked those resorts because of their Tripadvisor reviews. I wanted Kaanapali Beach Resort in Maui, but I'm glad I didn't book it because it doesn't have full kitchens in any of the rooms.

My sister has traded into the Poconos RCI resort, Greenspring Resort and King's Creek Resort in Williamsburg. Although she enjoyed her stays at each, she said the Greenspring Resort had really thin walls so you could hear you neighbors and the King's Creek Resort had very little to do at the resort. She really enjoyed her stay at the Poconos and said the resort had lots of activities.

There are a number of very good resorts in places like HI, MX, Aruba, FL beaches, Atlantic Coast, Gatlinburg, Branson, LV, etc.

Let me add that a subset of RCI options are a reasonable choice if you can get them and have the points. It's too risky and uncertain to buy for this purpose however.
