RCI resort stays

Just in case I can't score a HHI reservation next summer, can anyone suggest a place that they have loved (on the beach)? It can be in NC, SC, FL (Destin area only). We are from OH and want to keep this a cheap vacation (and drive) since we are bringing the kids friends. Thanks a bunch!

Are you trading DVC for RCI or are you using RCI outside of DVC?

The resorts are limited through DVC, that can make a big difference.

I've never stayed in any of the RCI resorts in NC or SC, but you can check tripadvisor and the reviews on the DVC RCI website. In NC, they should have resorts in Atlantic, Nags Head area, and New Bern. In SC the big area is Myrtle Beach. You will find more RCI resorts in the beach areas of FL.

Look for private trades for some of the Marriott's or at RCI for Some of the better Wyndham, Starwood and Bluegreen resorts. To have much chance you'll need an ongoing search and you're already late. TUG is the best place to investigate timeshares, the small yearly fee is well worth it.

Las olas beach club in both cocoa beach or satellite beach are nice family resorts on the beach and they are a small family owned business. My parents own 7 cocoa weeks and I owned 1 satellite week. Been to both many times and have always enjoyed my stays.

something to consider--although you don't know about DVC HHI until 7 months out, most of the good stuff from RCI will likely be gone by then. Most savvy RCI traders are searching (sort of like a waitlist) at least 1 year out. We have traded via (non) DVC thru RCI into HHI many times for summer, as well as Nags Head and MB. An RCI rep told me that most RCI search matches for summer beach weeks occur within a month or so after Labor Day, as people get back from vacation and then decide whether they want to go the next year or deposit in RCI and go somewhere else.
If you are willing to accept a great week at a non-DVC prior to 7 months, you might want to start a search for only the top resorts now. I do not think they take the DVC points unless you get a match. You can find out a lot about resorts on tug2.net, a BB like this for timeshare owners.

In Florida, I wouldn't limit yourself to the Destin area. There's also Panama City Beach.

And actually anywhere from about Cocoa Beach north on the Atlantic coast should also be doable. The northern Atlantic coast includes Cocoa Beach, Daytona, Flagler Beach, St Augustine, Jax Beach, and a lot of other places. Those places are only a few hours south of SC.

You need to take a look at the choices in the DVC/RCI options and then research specific resorts. There is so much variance in vacation experience across that universe that it's hard for anyone to give you good input.
