Ok,
I am so confused about DVC now switching over to RCI.
Can anyone explain RCI, and what it means to me as a DVC owner?
How many RCI points does it take to stay at a DVC resort? Does RCI have seasons, more points at certain time of year...can a person using RCI points reserve a year out?? Even before our 11 month window?
If anyone can just give me any info on this new RCI.
I have been hearing rumors that is why our DVC values is falling...RCI is so much less than DVC to rent same unit...it is effecting our points rental and re-sale prices.
THANKS in advance...

DVC gave RCI alot of inventory. WHich for the same reason RCI can't let go of at sale prices.

there sales prices are at $110 for this May for a 1-bedroom for a week in a timeshares.

DVC are not included in this sale.

there rentals are priced more reasonable than DVC - but certainly not anywhere near the rental price of DVC member using points.

okw - 2 bedroom may - $4,202.99

OKW - 2 bedroom early dec - $3,527.99 - mid dec - $3,851.99

what month and DVC resort do you want to see.

when you are use to last minute sales for RCI - $219 for 1-bedroom, and $249 for 2-bedroom - DVC resorts are not a good bargin for RCI members.

all prices are for a week.

THANKS....so bottom line is RCI is not a good deal when using RCI points to rent at DVC....

now don't know about that.

these are the rci rental prices. need to ask someone who has points.

would hope not. another reason to complaint to DVC about RCI.

also with RCI points they seem to have been brought at way different prices. it is very confusing. Some owners got a deal - other owners got charged a heck of alot more.

I think it's far too early for RCI to have any impact on DVC resale prices. Any perceived loss of value likely has more to do with simple supply and demand (given the economy) plus the type of in-demand locations DVC is selling now (BLT and Grand Californian.) You've got greater-than-previous numbers of contracts on the resale market right now due to members suffering with the economy, plus people who may be selling older resorts to buy at the newer locations.

If you're specifically looking at the first wave of DVC resorts (ending in 2042), then I would expect to see a steady decline in prices over the next 3 decades. That's just the reality of owning an asset with a fixed expiration date. To many, resorts like VWL, BCV and BWV may be their faves, but BLT and AKV are looking much better these days considering they have contracts which run up to 18 years longer.

The days of DVC contracts gaining value for years after purchase may be largely gone.

Functionally RCI plays about the same role that II (Interval International) did up until 2008. Resorts are only available thru RCI when owners have traded-out of their DVC resort. There really isn't any impact on the 11-month booking window.

As to the "how does RCI impact me" question--the easiest answer is that if you never traded out thru II, then the move to RCI doesn't impact you at all. All DVC did is swap one trading company for another. Frequent traders will tell you there are pros and cons to both II and RCI, but if you aren't using your DVC points to trade to other destinations, you really aren't impacted at all.

I'm surprised that ever happened! Was Disney increasing the sales price drastically or maybe things just selling out with unmet demand?

I would have expected DVC contracts in general to depreciate at a fairly steady rate based primarily on the number of years remaining on the contract. Sure, some resorts will be more desirable than others and that would have to be taken into account as well...

Prices were increasing but I think the unmet demand was more relevant. For about 4 years the only resort DVC was marketing was SSR. Some didn't find that to be their cup 'o tea and instead bought the likes of BCV and BWV via resale.

But now that BLT is around with 18 more years of ownership and much lower annual dues, I think demand for some of the older resorts if flatlining. There's still a market among bargain-seekers, but not nearly as active as it was just 1-2 years ago.

In many ways RCI will not be any different than was II for DVC members. You can reserve a full week up to 2 years out and in some cases, reserve shorter stays for a proportional charge. Some of the resorts are the same but you still need to investigate if a given resort fits your needs. It gets far more complicated on the other side when an RCI weeks or RCI points members is looking to exchange in but this won't really affect DVC members unless they are also members of those systems as some of us are.

don't know if this help or not

comparing OKW to Wnydham Bonnett Creek - both 2-bedroom
OKW
weeks
1-4 - - 69,500
5-6 - - 92,500
7-17 - - 115,500
18-19 - - 69,500
20-24 - - 92,500
25-33 - - 115,500
34-47 - - 92,500

WBC
1-4 - - 49,500
5-6 - - 62,500
7-17 - - 82,000
18-19 - - 49,000
20-24 - - 92,500
25-33 - - 82,000
34-47 - - 65,000

of course with RCI points not sure if this how many you need to trade to get OKW or WBC - or they get?

it is to me a confusing system.

It's how many points you must relinquish if you are a direct Points member to book there.

Nominally, it's also the Points awarded to owners there, but for owners of both of these systems (DVC, Wyndham) the points charts don't really have any impact---both have their own, internal points currency, and a fixed crossover grid to convert to RCI Points inventory, independent of the destination resort's actual Points value.
