RCI members booking DVC

Hi all - my friend who owns RCI has two reservations in the next year at DVC resorts. What struck me odd is that she was able to call 10 months out and get a room. That annoys me a little as I can't reserve other than my home resort earlier than 7 monts.

I guess I just found this interesting! Anyone else have thoughts on this?

It's quite possible that the person who exchanged *out* had that resort as their home resort---so they could have booked it at 10 months. Remember that no one can exchange *in* through RCI until some other member exchanges *out*.

IMO, members use by exchanging out should have a higher priority than non home resort usage by other DVC members. The only way to not have it so it to eliminate exchanging totally.

I exchanged into BWV several times before buying into DVC at SSR. Yes, having to wait the extra 2 or 3 months to book my room as an "owner" bugged me a bit. Oh, well -- it is all part of the game. Now I mix it up: book some reservations via Exchange and others directly through DVC. Benefits of each:

If booked through Exchange:
* Book earlier (10 months from travel)
* Fine for 7 night stays starting on the weekend

If booked through DVC:
* Better control of room type and view
* Arrive any day of the week
* Choose any length of stay
* Receive free internet and other owner perks during stay
* Great fallback position if my exchange request failed

Color me happy either way!
