Trying to decide between a summer vacation at Suites at Attitash in NH or Bethel Inn in Maine. We've been to NH many times and love it but never stayed in Maine. But other reviews I've read indicate Bethel Inn is a bit run down. Anyone have any experience with these resorts?

I have no direct knowledge or experience. Reviewing info it looks like both are a compromise but nice enough to not be a problem. Both areas are very nice in general. While I didn't cross reference to DVC's list, it seems RCI has nicer resorts available in the NE than either currently.

TUG is likely the best option for info on this subject, www.tug2.net .

There probably are nicer resorts, but those were the only two available the week we wanted to go. I may wait a little while and check back to see what else becomes available. Thanks

What week are you looking at?

Third week of August, although we may not be able to do a full week. I have 2 college age kids and we're trying to work around their summer jobs and when they have to go back to school. Guess I should be glad they still want to go with us at all.

There are other good resorts for a full week starting the weekend of both the 11th and 18th of August. IF you're limiting yourself to less than a week, you may not have many choices.

Where do you go to check availability for RCI resorts? When I called Disney, those were the only two they gave me.

I am a member of RCI independently. I searched what was available and cross referenced with the DVC-RCI exchange list. Inventory changes all the time.

Hi,

I am from Maine and I have stayed at both! The Bethel Inn is an old Inn and imho would be a lot of fun in the winter as the ski resorts, Sunday River and Mt. Abram are nearby. The Bethel Inn has golf in the summer months. It is very cozy. There are a few outdoorsy things to do. You could zipline at Sunday River. :)

Attitash is a condo resort and North Conway very close. There is tons to do in N. Conway. Shopping, The Alpine Slide, The Conway Scenic Railroad, to name a few. Lots of restaurants.... Nearby the Kancamangus Hwy, Loon mountain, Clark's Trading Post, The Lost River, Mt Washington auto rd and the Cog railway. tons more.

I would stay in NH in the summer and The Bethel Inn in the winter... but just my opinion. Have fun!

I'd vote for New Hampshire! I love it here. :) The Alpine slide is tons of fun.

(But I haven't been to the place in Maine.)

Thanks, we have been to NH many times in the summer and love it. Thought we might try something different in ME but I've seen better reviews of Attitash than Bethel.

If we stay at Attitash, any idea how far it would be to where we can get some good whitewater rafting (just a day trip)? I think we'd have to go into ME to do that. We don't want it too mild, as our kids are older.

I know that you can canoe on Saco River I believe. Not sure about whitewater rafting in NH. The Bethel Inn is near a river where I believe you can also canoe. Whitewater rafting here in ME is generally north. You would be in western Maine, in the mountains in Bethel.

I *think* whitewater rafting in ME would be the Forks or somewhere near Millinocket which would be a few hours drive from your location in Bethel. Maybe there are more I don't know about but those are generally the two that I hear people going to around here. :)

Is the Samoset resort available for your dates? That is located on the mid coast of Maine. Lots of things to do from there. :)

Unfortunately, we have had very little snow this year, so the rafting, if you find it will not be at its best. Hopefully we will get some good snow before the winter is over!
