A friend wants to stay on property end of next April. She has RCI and I know there's some kind of exchange with DVC but not totally familiar with it. She was told she can book 10 mos out but that seems odd...RCI can book before DVC members can book at the 7 mo window?

She was told AKV and Wilderness are the only resorts she could book at, but they're both full. I don't know if RCI only has a certain number of rooms allotted?

Any info or pointing me to a link would be much appreciated! THANKS!

Try www.TUG2.net. She will need to join. then she can look for help over there on the Exchange Forum.

It sounds like they have RCI points which has a booking window of no more than 10 months out. They can only book what has been deposited. Deposits often happen from home resort inventory at 7-11 months out. She can book any DVC resort that is available, there are no restrictions on which one if you can book any of them. The only current restriction is if you have any RCI points based in Orlando, you can't book DVC at all. With RCI points, she can't do a request first. She should simply check several times a day and once she finds what she wants, book it immediately.

This is not entirely true. It is 10 months out for non-home resort at Wyndham. I exchanged into DVC on 10/7/2011 for a 1 Bedroom at BCV on 9/2/2012. That was at just under 11 months out (a few days after the home DVC'rs booked).

Yes RCI can book before non-home DVC members but inventory is extremely limited. Not sure how DVC/RCI negotiate how many units will be available that far out. I've heard (but I am really new at this) that deposits will often be seen around 7 months out and closer during slower times of the year.

It's not inventory that DVC members can book because a member traded out their points to RCI for an RCI vacation.

I am an RCI member and have exchanged 3 times. Twice at OKW and once at Kidani. The inventory available in RCI is extremely volatile and limited. You have to be flexible with travel time and be ready to book a room if one shows up, because it will not stay long. At certain times of the year, you will have several units to choose from, at other times, like right now, there is nothing DVC available for the 10 months we can see.

As far as DVC properties I have seen show up on RCI, they include: OKW, Kidani, WL, BWV, BC, and Saratoga. I don't think I have ever seen BLT, but I think it could pop up as well.

Right now, I am checking RCI every day hoping to pick up something at the end of next summer.

From what I have been told, the inventory comes from a DVC member exchanging out into RCI as a PP mentioned.

I hope your friend can find something, but they are going to have to be diligent.

I'm in this same boat. I am trying to get DVC through RCI (MY DD has Shell Vacations which she can use RCI- I don't really get it all)
A few years ago we did this and each day a few rooms would come up, and within the time tit takes to call back they would be gone. We did get OKW and she got SSR for a week that we wanted.
My DD has been checking for me, but not daily' The only thing she found near our dates was SSR but it was for August and we need October.
I wish there was a way I could keep watch online, but not being a member myself, I can't do much.
I wonder if we might have more luck in a month or two.
DD's Shell Vacations will no longer be involved with RCI after this year so I am worried I will miss out. I am spoiled after my last DVC 1bdrm stay.;)

If the DVC inventory available in RCI is extremely volatile and limited and if the RCI inventory available in the DVC is extremely volatile and limited, why mess with it at all. Why not buy where you love to stay and not have to deal with all of the pressure and uncertainty?

makes sense to me.

but i have to admit, there is something about buying a $500 timeshare with $600 annual dues and trading for a 2BR DVC villa...

As posted, my response is 100% correct. The response was regarding RCI points, not RCI in general. RCI points can't book anything before 10 months out that are RCI points resorts, they can book non RCI points resorts up to 2 years out subject to availability. However, they can't book RCI points resorts that have deposits on the weeks side using RCI points even if a unit is available. This has nothing to do with booking using Wyndham, DVC or other points systems. When DVC deposits is another ball game and it's non uncommon to see deposits are between 10 & 11 months. I don't recall seeing anything at 11 months out due to the 7 day reservation rule though.

Sometimes it is "all about the journey" rather than the "destination." Planning vacations via exchange (RCI, II, or other) feeds that itch to gamble, live a bit dangerously ... and when you snag a great exchange you can relish in the "thrill of the hunt." Really, it becomes quite addictive.

bwvBound--that is too funny! More like an obsession! Of course, we have traded into great places--but when I count the amount of time it took checking, searching, etc.--probably as much time as I actually spent on vacation! Elaine

Hi nilseks- I was checking for availability for myself through RCI today and I see one week beginning April 14th at SSR and one beginning April 22nd at BCV- both one bedroom. These are on points through my DD's Shell Vacations link to RCI availability, don't know if it matters- or if it helps.;)
We've traded before and know that they go fast.

This morning there is BLT available April 29th. At least showing through my link. Good luck.:)

Last I checked, there was nothing in any size for Jan, Feb or March but April had a 3 bedroom at BLT!!!! I was looking at the end of Jan though for my inlaw's to use RCI points so that April opening didn't help me. This was about a week ago.

You're both correct, but you're talking about two different things.

You are talking about using your Wyndham points through RCI Weeks.

Dean is talking about exchanging through the RCI Points program, which is a completely different inventory.

The reason I don't buy DVC is simple, money! I already own a timeshare that I paid alot of money for that I cannot sell for anything near what I have in it. While, I hope to one day own DVC, for now, I have to be content with trying my best to exchange into a DVC property when we want to go to Disney.

If nothing in a DVC resort becomes available when we want to go, we can always stay at a number of other resorts in the area... although, I am usually willing to wait out a DVC resort popping up.

Oh, by the way, the April 29 BLT that popped up was a technical glitch. I tried to book it online and couldn't so I called. The RCI agent couldn't see it either. He said it just happens that way once in a while.

So true!

That's too bad about the BLT.

I also don't own DVC although I would love to. I don't want to take that on at this point- can't afford it. Lucky for me my DD has two other times shares that she bought the last one because she could use it to trade into Disney through RCI.

I have been lucky to rent points through her and stay at OKW for what I would have paid for a room at one of the values.

Unfortunately that company will no longer be trading through RCI next year so this is my last chance to get that great deal. And I'm on it- need to wait a few more weeks and hope for the best.

Disney is a great use of her points as far as I can see!

Thanks Jim for clearing that up. I was gonna reply to Dean's mor recent post and say, "if you say so, because I am SO CONFUSED!!!" :rotfl:

I am brand new to Timeshares and can relate to BWVbound's addiction post. :rotfl2:
