Small guests at the Disney Store that I saw this weekend (I'm a CM) would point to the Alice reusable shopping bag we have and specifically to Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter and say, "That man looks so scary!" and every time I said, "Are you excited to see Alice in Wonderland?", more often than not, I got a resounding NO. Only the older preteens and teens were excited. I will most definitely have to pre-screen this.
My son is still freaked out over Princess and the Frog, and he's 7. He makes me skip over the "Are You Ready' song that Dr. Facilier sings on the soundtrack.
I'm sick of these movies being so scary. I pre-screened Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (PG) and the second scene was so scary that I almost jumped out of my seat. It was way too intense for children, parent-guided or not.
I think that you have to personally see these movies to make sure they won't scare your kids. I don't trust reviews anymore. I think most of the ones we read are studio shills posing as media coverage. Either that or other children are much more jaded than my kids. Maybe it's because we don't play video games. Who knows.
