Do the rates go up if you are looking during the holiday season but not traveling during the holiday time?

I am traveling to MCO in at the beginning of May - I have a good rate for Dollar using the city special that I booked about a month ago, if I look now the rate is almost $50.00 higher. I thought the prices were supposed to go down closer to your date.

Is it because I am looking now (spring break season) for a car down the road or will the cars just continue to go up?

Car rental rates go up and down based on demand. If they have a lot of cars left, the price will go down. If they don't, the price will go up.

It used to be prices almost always went down closer to the date but the car rental companies have not been keeping as many cars in inventory.
