Very new to this. Going to Universal for first time this July. Most of the rates I've tried are for $264 per night, garden view. Going through the Fan Club, I can save 10% but it will be a package deal. Does anyone know if rates will come down for July for room only? I don't expect the package deals to get any cheaper. Going for 3 nights then going to Disney World.
Thanks, Cindy

Hi Cindy - I think it's hard to know what's going to happen this year as it seems they've really changed the way they're applying discounts. Looks like FAN discounts are only being given on the package and not for room only - AAA rates are coming out first and then APH rates are coming out closer to booking dates. I really haven't been watching whether rack rates have been coming down - I have AAA and APH - maybe you could also watch orangevacations and hotelkingdom for sales closer to your dates (just be aware that they have fees attached to cancellations). Maybe someone else has more info on whether FAN is coming up for room only, I haven't seen any - good luck - I miss the days of Ent rates and AP rates at the beginning of the year - you could book at a reasonable rate and then just "forget about it"! :smooth:

i would suggest that you book your room now and modify with a better rate when they come out. depending on when you plan to go may be changed if no rooms are available by waiting till the last minute.

i always book the room way in advance, then modify later.

i called last week to see if FAN club rates have been released for the fall. i was told not yet. i call each month to verify that.

i booked with the AAA rate but looking for a deeper discount. the entertainment book rate is no longer being honored with the universal hotels.
i called and was told even though they are listed in the 2005 book as participants, they withdrew from the program.
i guess the universal hotels are more in demand and they no longer need the ENT to keep them booked.

those were the days!!
last year at hrh i used the ent. rate and got a super deal. a $249 per night for $168 during the hhn in october on a weekend.

The AAA code seems to be the best one this year.
I've got $210 per night at the RPR July 6-8. So $264 at the HRH is nice, the short walk to the park is worth it. I'd book it, and then keep looking.

I don't know why people think rates are going to drop at the last minute. Yes, rates are lower during non peak times, but during the summer, the hotel will be full.

i was booked at the hrh last year the second week in october for a long 4 day weekend........had the ressie and paid the deposit back early in april.

checked in and was told the hrh was overbooked.............wow.
to a select group of people, they were letting them choose to spend one of the nights at pbh for free..........guess what i chose........

yes, the hotels are fully booked during the summer and during the hhn events in october........at least it was at hrh for the last three years i stayed there.

As far as I've seen you can book a room only with the fan discount on universal vacations website without buying tickets or airfare.

Go to
http://www.univacations.com/

on the right there is a hotel/tickets tab with dates to put in and # of nights etc..

in the promo code fan62397

then on next page check which hotel and room you want to compare prices

then when it goes to the next page you can uncheck any tickets they have checked for you as to only look at the rates for room only.

I check this often to see if it can beat my APH rate for 4 nights in May. So far it is close...but not enough to go that route.

If you use the fan code here, it will take off 10% of the room and tickets (if you choose any tickets).

Good luck! Hope this helps! :cheer2:

Hi Cindy!
We are doing the same as you are!! We are going to Universal for the first time the weekend of the 4th (for 3 nights) and heading over to Disney for the rest of the week.

After calling and searching for rates,I went ahead and booked Hard Rock for the $264.00 a night. Front of the line will be great and my family wants to stay at the HRH.

Could sombody tell me if you booked your vacation and hotel room through a travel agent, and the rates come down. Are you able to get the lower price? I booked for mid-July in January and right now I saved alot on the airfare had I booked now. Just curious as every little bit helps.
