I was looking at buying a rashguard swimsuit for my youngest because she blond and fair skinned like me. Has anyone here had any problems with you child be allergic to the fabric? My daughter is allergic to certain things and I was just curious. TIA.

Nope. No problems with them. I do buy the very inexpensive ones because I like to match the boys rashguard tops to their swimsuits :) Last week Target had all kids swimwear on sale for 15% off. I think the rashguard shirts came to $7?? I don't remember. I've also bought the Old Navy ones too.

I've never bought the one piece. I usually take the rashguard shirt off once my son comes out of the water and wants to dry off and put him in a t-shirt.

I was looking at buying the two piece. My dd1 loves clothes and she'll be 2 this summer. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try them and see.

Old navy has some suits on sale. I always use them. Both my boys have 3 different ones with the matching tops. DD has 3 as well that have the tops.

Ive always used the Old Navy ones have had no problems with them. The new ones for this year have UV on the tag. Also they had girls and baby girl ones too.

The Target ones have UV too. I couldn't believe it for the price!!

When rashguards first came out, they were so expensive! Now I can't believe you can get one under $10 w/UV protection!

Oh and the Target ones had Disney characters.

I have used both ON and Target...and have had good luck with both. DS5 is a red head and has sensitive skin too, and we have never had a problem. Both of my kids actually prefer these types of suits now.

ok im a surfer and the best rash guards are the name brands. the cheap ones are way thinner and tear up my stomach ,but since you are just wearing it for looks the cheap ones should do. i have seen name brand ones cheap at ross and marshalls if you have one near you!!

Right now, Costco has Disney swim wear for sale. For Boys, they have the trunks with matching Rash guards for $19.99 (maybe not as cheap as some other places but hey, they're really cute!). For the boys, they have Nemo, POTC, Cars...I think there was at least one other boy themed one. I can't remember what they were selling for girls (sorry!) I just wasn't focused on that since I don't have a dd. The rash guards say they are spf 30 as well. Just thought I'd pass it along.

To answer the OP's question, my ds doesn't have a problem with the material. But he doesn't seem to have particularly sensitive skin either. I hope you find something that works for you!

Actually now my problem may be to find them small enough. She's almost 2, but wears 18 month clothing and I think 2T might be too big. I guess I can try that size. I hope she grows. Thanks for all the inputs.

Size 2 should be fine. You don't want it wet and tight on her.

Both my girls have pretty sensitive skin. The oldest is so sensitive that she can not even use soap in the bath tub because it makes her itch. But neither have had trouble with rash guards. I make my oldest wear one when swimming because she is pretty fair skinned. My youngest has much darker skin but wears one as well just so I don't have to listen to the "but she isn't wearing one" arguement :rotfl: And neither have had any problems with them. I got one at Land's End one year at the end of the season when it was on clearance and I have also gotten them at Target and both worked fine with no reaction. I like the ones from Target like someone else mentioned because I can get a whole outfit and not spend a fortune. I usually get a tankini with a matching rash guard for the girls and then when we are swimming at an indoor pool they don't have to wear the rash guard but when outside and wearing the rash guard it matches the rest of their suit.

Like the previous posters children, my DS9 has very sensitive skin. He breaks out in hives from dust, bubble bath, lotions etc.... He has never had a problem with them. He was thrilled when they began to make these widely available as he always had to wear a t-shirt to the beach before that. The last couple years we got ours at Old Navy, this year the Easter Bunny brought some ones from the Disney Store.:goodvibes

My DD has fair, very sensitive skin. There is only one kind of sunscreen she can use that doesn't cause her to break out (and of course it's expensive). Last year, I bought her a full-body sunblock suit from coolibar.com. This company makes sun-protective clothing. It worked great and she never complained about it. She wore a 24m and there was plenty of room. Well worth the money.

You can try LL Bean and Lands End. I get my DD's at Land's End. She's got a couple of the long sleeve ones for her swim class.

Sometimes you can catch a great sale as well. I've found the ones I've gotten from Land's End and L.L. Bean hold up a little better if you are using them a lot more often than an occasional trip to the beach.

Hope that helps!

The quality of Land's End rashguards can't be beat (for the price) in my opinion. That's what I buy for my boys.

I did find a cute set for my daughter at Target for a third of the price.

I'm looking on Land's End right now in the overstocks section and they do have rasher guards on sale over there.

This discussion got me looking around for DD for her summer swim lessons.
