For collectors of Walt Disney World memorabilia, the original map of Disney World that was part of the premier decor in the rooms of the Poly and Contemp, is the "Holy Grail"! Now for the first time, it has been reproduced, and is much more affordable to to own this incredible art.
Each room at the Contemp and Poly had this map in every room- it was printed on masonite, and measured about 4 feet by 5 feet. In the mid 80's when the rooms were rehabed, the maps were ripped of the walls, and thrown into a pile and sold off to cast members as scrap masonite. Most were destroyed or badly damaged, and only a few survive today at prices most collectors cannot afford.
Urban "Disney Legend" says that Walt had this artwork hanging over his hospital bed during his final days. It was his dream come true...
Although the reprint is a bit smaller than the original, it would be much easier to ship, stretch and frame. For those of us that remember the first years of Disney World, this image is almost sacred. It shows the "original dream" of the Venetien, Persian and Asian Hotels that were never built, and their planned locations.
I post this as an alert to anyone out there who may be a collector of early park stuff, like me. I cannot vouch for the quality of the reprint, the reliability of the seller, or anything else. I have no connection or previous knowledge of this seller. But if I didn't own an original, I'd jump at the chance to have this very early Disney World art in my home!
