Wow, I haven't been on here in awhile... :rolleyes1 Sorry about that! Lol.

I told myself over the Summer that I would apply for the Spring Program 2011...and it was going good! I was researching, and really making sure this is what I wanted to do, I plans all made....and then I don't know what happened.

I'm an English Major at Penn State and talking with my Mom she told me that if I love Disney as much as I do, and I wanna work there...why not change my major to fit a job that I could get at WDW? So I researched and I was kind of interested in Hotel, Restaurant and Industrial Management for a major. Cause I found out with that I could possibly go into event planning or wedding planning...and that sounded really cool. But my only concern with this was that I would get stuck working the front desk in a hotel the rest of my life. Which, that doesn't sound bad but Disney employees don't get paid that well...and I know with Event Planning or whatever I'd be making more.

But whatever, I changed my schedule around a little because to get into HRIM you have to take Economics...and as much as I dread that class...I took it. I actually thought I was failing at some points...but I ended up with an A-.

In early September I went to talk to one of the Academic Affairs ladies and I talked to her about doing the DCP and switching my major. She said it would be possible but I'd have to come into contact with the head of the HRIM department at Main Campus (I'm at a branch campus), and have a meeting with him and find out when doing the CP would be best for me. But after that I didn't pursue any further about the CP. I think I became too busy, and I thought more about HRIM and realized that it wasn't for me. I'm not really interested in it to tell you the truth...the ONLY reason I'd want to do it is because I could possibly work for Disney someday. And even then...who knows if I'd get a job? Then were would I be?

So I'm back to sticking with my English Major. As weird of plans as these are...this is what I got so far.
1. Do the CP
2. Graduate and move to FL
3. Work at WDW part time & probably a waitress job somewhere
4. While down there apply for jobs at publishing companies (I wanna be a book editor)
5. If manage to get a job...awesome. (I'm thinking I'd have to work my way from bottom to the top in a company like that so I'd keep my Disney job but possibly request my hours get taken back)
6. If I become successful in the company...say bye-bye to Disney =/
7. If all else fails...I will work at Disney World for the rest of my life...and be completely content.

Weird @ss plan, I know. But that's all I got. So I definitely want to do the CP, I'm just unsure about when I want to apply. I've definitely decided that I want to be down there for Fall though. I really want to experience Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas down there. But I have so many doubts in my head....I might have to take a semester off of school because they might not give me any credits, I might have to wait until my senior year to apply and I might not get in, my school will encourage me not to go into the program....I dunno.

At this point I know my only obstacle is me. My "if all else fails plan" is that if my school says no I'm going to apply anyway and take a semester off. I'm not gonna let these people get in my way of my dream. I'm sick of sitting around...I wanna do something about it.

Alright, I think that ends my rant for now, lol. Thanks for reading! If you wanna add any comments or just add your own two cents that'd be great! I guess I really only have one question after that....

When's the best time to apply for a CP? I've heard that it's best to apply after your 21 because then they leave you alone and even if you don't drink, you won't get in trouble because your roommate has bottles of beer under their bed, lol.

Thank you so much for reading! I appreciate it!!!!!!!

You sound like me. I want to pursue an english major, and am completing an associates in liberal arts right now so I can transfer to a 4-year college and finish there. I too, always wanted to work in publishing, and am trying to see where this could fit at Disney. I would be thrilled to work for Disney permanently, but I would like to do so in a way that will command a salary that I can live with. It's one thing to want to work for Disney, but ya' gotta pay the bills:) Perhaps you could parlay that education into working for the company in a communications position? That's what I am considering. I may pursue the major in communications instead of English. I am headed to FL as a CP next month for the Spring 2011 program, and while I am there I am going to research this as much as possible. Obviously this has little to do with working in the parks or resorts, but you have to start somewhere, and I feel that the CP at least gets your foot into the "employment door". I think the most difficult thing is not knowing exactly what positions exist at the company, and if you can compile a list of these, then perhaps you can "tailor" your education in a way that achieves your goals and makes you happy on a personal level. Just a thought. Good luck.
