I have been among the missing the past few days as I have this strange affliction....just got back from the doctor's myself. Anyway, they are not sure what it is yet, cellulitis, shingles or something else so I have been in a lot of pain, lots of itching and strange welts...

Anyway, I will live, but my heart is forever marked by the death of the man who profoundly gave so many people hope. He lived his life the best he could facing the odds that he would probably not make it to his 48th birthday and that he would leave his young children and the wife he loved...

I am not feeling too eloquent, but please know all of us here who are battling one thing or another, if you have not seen his last lecture or read his blog, do so, he was inspiring.....

I am still trying to be a Tigger and I know that he was a Tigger right to the end.....

Hugs to all of us here who have lost a loved one to PC or any other horrific disease......please take care of each other. I am a bit down healthwise but hopefully will perk up the next few days on all the medications I am on.

My heart breaks for his family and I send many prayers their way. He was, and shall remain, such incredible inspiration. I have recommended his speech to friends during times I felt they truly needed some uplifting inspiration in their lives, and I remind myself to watch it again whenever I am feeling down. Thank you Randy, for the mark you left on the world.

Randy may be gone, but he will definately not be forgotten. His spirit lives on. May god rest his soul:angel:

My heart aches for the Pausch family. As many of you know, I lost my husband, Mat, to pancreatic cancer on July 7th. It really is a horrible, horrible disease.

Marsha - I hope you are feeling better today.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Sending prayers and hugs your way.

I, too, was crushed to hear of this tonite. He was inspirational and I loved his "don't ignore the elephant in the room" quote.

Marsha, we came back from vacation with an assortment of ills too - DD developed a strange rash and is on 3 scripts including steriods which are finally providing some relief. Hope you are feeling better soon Marsha.

This book Randy wrote has provided his family with financial security now after his death. Much the same as Ulysses S Grant wrote an autobiography finishing only days b4 his death, saving his widow from financial destitution. I can see the need to write all b4 one passes - it leaves a legacy and the comfort of one's words to the family..

Marsha - First let me say I am sorry you're not feeling great. I hope you recover quickly.

I too, was among those who were huge fans of Randy. I have been checking his blog every day since I saw him on Oprah's show last Fall. I started getting worried when there had not been any updates in a few weeks and his last box score had indicated a big weight loss. Then the news today. My heart literally sank, I went and watched the last lecture again - and cried again.
I was just talking to a friend on the phone who was also very moved by him and had emailed his lecture to everyone she knew last Fall as well. I said I had done the same, but didn't receive any responses to those I had sent it to. I have to think that death and dying are subjects that still make people very uncomfortable, and i understand that - but this lecture was about living, and I think its something everyone should see. Maybe those who have not lost any loved ones yet can not really understand?

I too, aspire to be a Tigger and owe that in part to Randy and his inspiration.

Godspeed Randy.

Randy Pausch - another life lost to Pancreatic Cancer. My mom lost her battle to the beast of PC on February 18, 2008. An unforgiving cancer, with little awareness, little research and not much hope. I miss you, mom......

FYI - on tonight!

Diane Sawyer to celebrate Randy Pausch in "Primetime" special

Diane Sawyer will honor the memory of "Last Lecture" author Randy Pausch in several ways next week.

She will pay tribute to the Carnegie Mellon professor on Monday's "Good Morning America."

And Sawyer will offer a "Primetime" special at 10 p.m. Tuesday on WFTV-Channel 9. That program will be called "The Last Lecture: A Celebration of Life."

Pausch died Friday at the age of 47 of pancreatic cancer.

Yes, he was a Tigger and he had a wonderful attitude.

Marsha, how are you feeling? I'm headed to the doctor myself right now because I think I have shingles. My skin started to hurt a few days ago and now I have a rash. I'm a little nervous because I've been sick with one thing or another since June, but I'm hoping it's just the stress I've been under.

I hope you feel better soon!

Rustysmom, I hope you don't have shingles. Hopefully the doctor will have you feeling good in no time.

Thanks. Well, apparently he said I do have shingles. It came from prednisone that I took to get rid of fluid from an ear infection a few weeks ago. So far it doesn't hurt too much, but he gave me painkillers. I have a whole stash left over from my Mom, I don't need any more. They don't do a thing for me anyway. I hope that's all it is. I get nervous. I wanted a blood test, but he said to wait until I got better.

Hope yours gets better quickly.

I have been watching his lectures and following his progress through this ordeal , and when I was deep in the darkest moments through my own daughter's cancer ordeal , through Randy's lectures I was able to crawl up from the deep dark well. What a true inspiration he was , I now read his book to always keep things in prospective , Randy died but his legacy will always go on.

Randy has left his legacy and I will carry him in my heart forever, hopefully to get me through the darkest of times which I may face in the future..

and I thought I had told you all.. it is shingles... and boy this is a pain...

If you can, I would get the shot to avoid this, I did not know there was one, but I guess wonderful medical insurance does not pay for it, I believe you pay out of pocket.. I would have done that to avoid this, but continued my dislike for medical insurance once again.

Marsha , shingles are the pits , I had them twice and I don't wish them to my worst enemy. My children also had them once but not as bad.
I was out of work for a month , mine were in my mid back.
Hope you feel better soon my friend , and be careful , they are contagious.

Marsha---I hope by now you are feeling better. I had shingles once and that is enough! They were on my lower back which was sore enough but it could have been so much worse. My sister had them once on her face next to her eye. That was scarey. I hope you got diagnosed soon enough that you could take the pills. They help some I think.
I, too, was so touched by Randy Pausch. I actually read the book in just a couple of hours. I loved his philosophy--but who doesn"t?
Anyway I hope you feel better. You have been in my daily prayers for a long time and you will continue to be there for a long time to come.
