Seeing as how Randy is from around here (he grew up in Rand, WV...'bout 20 miles from here) and I used to have season tickets next to his...well, not his "father-in-law, because he hasn't married the girl...but the grandfather of Randy's kids, put it that way...I know a bit about the Randy situation. In high school, he got into a fight and put a kid into the hospital. He was tried, convicted, and sentenced to something like a month in the county jail. That cost him his scholarship to Notre Dame.
He ended up at Florida State, but had to come home in his first summer there in order to serve his sentence. When he arrived, they did a drug test...and he flunked (positive for marijuana). That cost him his scholarship at Florida State.
Next he moved on to Marshall, who was Division 1AA at the time. While there, he pretty much alienated every WVU fan in the state (about 4/5ths of the population, in other words) and got in trouble more than once, including a domestic violence charge that was eventually dropped. That didn't cost him his ride at Marshall, 'cause they're just about as scummy as he is...he fit right in.
I should put in a caveat here that says that the guy I mentioned earlier - Randy's long-time girlfriend's father - has pretty much always supported Randy. Yes, even over the whole "domestic violence" thing (he says it was a mutual fight and Randy didn't really do anything, which is what his daughter has told him).
The really sad part is, Randy could be a real hero to kids in this depressed state. Instead, he's nothing but an embarrassment.
