I don't have to be in until 1:00 tomorrow. Hurray!

But what are we doing in Psycho class? Supposedly our teacher's coming back...probably, either way, continuing the criminal minds unit.

I look under the tree
but there's nothing to see
'cause it's a broken heart

Today, December 5th, would have marked Walt Disney's 109th birthday. Walt Disney has created a lot amazing figures that the entire world knows about such as Disneyland, Disney World, and most famously Mickey Mouse and his pals. Walt Disney has transformed the industry of entertainment into what we all love today. So, today, we would like to bring back the memories of Walt's past and without any any further waiting, here we go!

In Walt's early life, he had his fair share of failures. However, he pressed on and thank goodness he did because on May 15th, 1928, the first appearance of Mickey Mouse arrived called Plane Crazy. While that wasn't a huge success, Mickey Mouse's second appearance was, Steamboat Willie. It became an immediate smash hit and that began Walt's success in future cartoon animated characters such as Goofy, Donald, Pluto, and of course Minnie Mouse. With the success of his animated cartoons, Walt took it a step further and created the first animated movie called "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

With the success of his animated characters and movies, Walt and his team continued to grow ans prosper. One Saturday afternoon, Walt was sitting on a bench watching his two daughters riding around in a fair. This got Walt thinking of how if only family could go to a place where both the parents and the children could have fun, together. On a side note, the bench Walt was sitting on when he thought of Disneyland can be found in the park itself still for everyone to see. July 17th, 1955 was a very important day in Walt Disney's life, it was the opening of Disneyland. Below you will see a 8-part youtube series that captured the entire LIVE broadcast on July 17, 1955. Along with it, we have added the TV show that originally Walt hosted himself and that he used to advertise Disneyland. This show was originally called "Disneyland" to further help advertise Walt's first theme park.

With the huge success of Disneyland, Walt still had an even bigger picture in mind: Disney World. Now, the process of how Walt got the land for Disney World is a pretty clever one. Walt knew that if he started to buy land in Florida directly, people who have started charging him a lot for the land. So, Walt thought of a pretty clever idea; he hired multiple companies to buy up small portions of Florida land and by the time people found out what had happened, Walt had the land he wanted to make his mos largest dream come true, Disney World. Below you will see a few videos of Walt talking about his plans for Disney World.

Unfortunately, Walt Disney passed away on December 15th, 1966. His passing brought sadness across the world and confusion in The Walt Disney company on whether or not to continue Walt's dream of Disney World. However, thanks to his long time partner, best friend, and brother, Roy O Disney, the dream stayed alive. However, Roy thought it wouldn't be right to name it Disney World, so instead decided to name it after his brother as Walt Disney World. As you can see, Walt Disney did a lot of things that changed the way the entertainment world worked that nobody will ever forget. If it wasn't for Walt Disney, who knows how other cartoons and movies would be being made today. We hope you enjoyed this trip into Walt Disney's past and hope you enjoy the videos.

Thank you Walt Disney

Dear Mr. X,

Hope to see you tomorrow! You missed the funniest thing ever in class on Thursday. I blame Jake. Perhaps Mr. Friel will show it to you, or someone will relay you the events.

Still, we've missed you, and hope you're feeling better!

Meaghan

George...that's really not fair. As of 1:00 tomorrow, I'll still have one whole period to sit through! And that's AP Spanish!

I'm in for 4 hours, and it takes at least an hour to get there... So that's 6 hours overall.
