WALT DISNEY WORLD

is a tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney...
and to the talents, the dedication, and the loyalty of the entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney's dream come true.

May Walt Disney World bring Joy and Inspiration and New Knowledge to all who come to this happy place...
a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages
can laugh and play and learn -- together.

-- October 1, 1971

INTRODUCTION

Iago, the villainous parrot from Disney's animated feature "Aladdin," and Zazu, the bossy hornbill from "The Lion King," are the new landlords of the Magic Kingdom's Enchanted Tiki Room "Under New Management," located in Adventureland, just across from the Jungle Cruise.

ATTRACTION

Preshow -- Before you enter the Tiki Room, you're treated to a few minutes of quips and wisecracks by the agents of the new show, the colorfully feathered William and Morris, voiced by comedians Don Rickles and the late Phil Hartman. Unfortunately, you have to stand during their shtick, but eventually the theater doors will open. Inside the dark and cool theater, you're seated on long, backless benches, with all the animatronic birds perched above.

The Enchanted Tiki Birds -- If you saw this attraction before 1998, you'll remember original "cast members" Jose, Michael, Fritz and Pierre who still perform as part of the show. The almost 10-minute show starts with these original characters leading the other birds in the famously familiar tune, "In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room..."

After a few seconds of this familiar refrain, the birds' chorus is interrupted loudly by the loud-mouthed and boastful parrot Iago, voiced distinctively by comedian Gilbert Gottfried. He proclaims that as the new co-owner of the Tiki Room he's introducing a brand-new production. His co-owner, the stiff upper-lipped Zazu warns Iago that he might irk the tiki gods, but Iago forges ahead.

The tiki goddess of disaster, Uh Oa, erupts from the center of the room in a cloud of green mist, and she wreaks her revenge on Iago, hurling a lightning bolt his way, zapping him ominously.

The tiki gods perform a triumphant chant, and Iago reappears bandaged and on crutches. After declaring the tiki gods the greatest act he has ever heard, he joins Zazu and the rest of the Audio-Animatronics cast for a musical grand finale.

INTERESTING FACTS

The original "Enchanted Tiki Room" debuted at Disneyland in California on June 23, 1963, and was the first attraction to use Audio-Animatronics technology.

The Walt Disney World version of the Tiki Room, called "Tropical Serenade," debuted October 1, 1971, and was originally sponsored by the Florida Citrus Growers.

The show closed in 1997, then reopened in 1998, as "The Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Management."

The original group of Audio-Animatronics characters continue to star in the show including Jose, Michael, Fritz and Pierre. Walt Disney Imagineers had three of the four original actors re-record audio segments for the new show.

Actor Jerry Orbach, well-known as the voice of Lumiere in Disney's Beauty and Beast films, supplies the voice of the French parrot Pierre in this revamped version of the Tiki Room.

The voices of Jose, Michael, and Fritz are supplied, respectively, by Disney mainstays Wally Boag, Fulton Burley and Thurl Ravenscroft.

The show features 314 figures including flowers, statues and birds.

The attraction's well-known theme song, "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room," was written, like many other Disney classics, by Richard and Robert Sherman.

INTRODUCTION

Travel on the world's most exotic rivers to see realistic Audio-Animatronic animals and ancient ruins. Be prepared for surprises along the way, including some very punny jokes! Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland, across from the Enchanted Tiki Room, just beyond the Swiss Family Treehouse.

ATTRACTION

Queue -- As you wind your way around a deceptively long queue that snakes back and forth through the last outpost of the Jungle Cruise offices, be sure to note the architectural details. For example, there's a chalkboard with a list of missing boats and persons, with names like "Ilene Dover" and "Anne Fellen." Also listen to the overhead chatter of the Cast Members to help while the wait time away. The really bad jokes they tell give you an idea of what you're in for on the cruise itself!

Jungle Cruise -- You board canopied launches patterned after the boat in the movie The African Queen that have whimsical names like "Bomokandi Bertha", "Irrawaddy Irma," and "Amazon Annie." After the launch leaves the dock, the skipper then pilots you through the dangerous waters of four "rivers": the Amazon in South America; the Congo in Africa; the Nile in Egypt; and the Mekong river in Cambodia in Southeast Asia. Along the route, a variety of realistic (and some not-so) Audio-Animatronic animals and natives are encountered, including a herd of bathing elephants in the Elephant Pool (left), some lions enjoying their dinner, angry hippos who might attack at any moment, and a shrunken head salesman. The launch also passes by a waterfall and several spraying fountains, so you may just get a little damp on this 9-minute excursion. In addition to being sprayed, you will also be peppered by a barrage of bad jokes and puns from your skipper! The cruise concludes with more funnies as guest disembark at the same point from which they started.

There's a list of some of the awful jokes told on the Jungle Cruise on Yoda's Jungle Cruise Jokes page at:

INTERESTING FACTS

Jungle Cruise opened at the Magic Kingdom in 1971.

The first version of the Jungle Cruise was very serious, based on Walt Disney's True Life Adventure series. It wasn't until a few years later that the Jungle Cruise "skippers" began adding jokes and funny stories.

Rumor is that the beached plane you see while on your jungle tour is really just half a plane -- the other half is in the Casablanca scene in the Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The Jungle Cruise boats are 27 feet long, and reach a top speed of 3.2 feet per second, using a 4-cylinder Chevrolet engine.

I always forget about checking back to all of the different sites I'm on. I'm a part of way too many xD

TOURING TIPS

Hidden Mickey Alert: In the cave Temple, look for the Mickey-shaped arrangement of three plates.

Riders in wheelchair/ECV may remain in them at this attraction but will need to wait for the "Bomokandi Bertha" boat.

The Jungle Cruise is a FastPass attraction. Queues at this attraction continue to be long during busy periods, though. If you obtain a FastPass here, walk over to ride the Pirates of the Caribbean while waiting for your FastPass window to open.

The cruise takes on a whole different feel when ridden in the evening in the dark -- this is also a less crowded time to take the ride.

This attraction has one very dark patch during which you cruise through a cave. It may not be advisable for folks with a fear of the dark or claustrophobia.

Assistive Listening Devices from Guest Services Can Be Used Here.

Ears to the World, Disney's show translators, are available here for guests with limited English fluency. Guests may choose from one of five languages: French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. Ask at Guest Relations at the park entrance.

Pirates of the Caribbean, the classic Disney theme park adventure brought to the big screen in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," has added new characters and features from the blockbuster entertainment franchise that debuted Jully 2006 along with "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

The attraction now features Captain Jack Sparrow and his nemesis Barbossa. Below are some official
Disney images from the new attraction.

Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Me! Travel back in time to the West Indies of the 1700s, when Spain brought gold from the New World back home and Pirates ruled the waters! Pirates of the Caribbean is located in Adventureland, in the Caribbean Plaza. The architecture resembles the 18th Century West Indies. Pirates of the Caribbean opened in Walt Disney World on December 15, 1973.

ATTRACTION

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN -- As you enter the attraction, the walkway to the boats is long and winding. Be sure and take a look at the theming inside the queuing area.

Wind your way through a cave with the sounds of cannon fire off in the distance. Board 15 passenger boats, go down a small drop and find yourself in the midst of the port of a Caribbean city under attack by a pirate frigate.

Around the riverbend, into the town, you find a rowdy group of pirates in search of gold and adventure. Pirates chasing women, women chasing pirates, pirates in jail, and a final scene with drunken pirates surrounded by gold treasure!

The eight and a half minute ride is over way too quickly! There's lots to see with 125 Audio-Animatronics figures including 65 pirates & villagers and 60 animals and birds.
