Random Q: Best Car Rental at DEN?

I know this isn't related to Disney, but I'm hoping someone can still offer some advice. We're flying into Denver in October. The last time we visited, we got our car rental through Thrifty, and it was a LONG and not great experience.

Has anyone rented a car at Denver and had a good experience? And if so, which car rental company did you use?

All of the car rentals at DEN are horrible because of how far away all of the rental car companies are from the airport itself. My recommendation would be to go with one of the top tier booked directly with them if you want a better experience. Hertz, National, Enterprise and Avis.

Okay - that's kind of where my head was at, but I wasn't sure! I made a reservation with enterprise. Hopefully this will be a better experience. Thanks!

We have friends in Crested Butte and have done this multiple times. It's highway robbery how much they charge out of DEN once the snow starts to fall. It may not be the case in October, but we have saved > $1000 for a week rental, AND upgraded to an AWD SUV, by renting a cheap car in DEN, drive it to Colorado Springs, turning that car in at the Colorado Springs airport, and renting a car out of that location instead. Yes, you can just return THAT car to DEN. No, they do not charge you extra to do so. We even told Avis we were going to do it on one trip in hopes they would give us the same price out of DEN. Their response, "sounds like a good idea, go ahead". Colorado Springs is about an hour drive south. Definitely worth checking into if you can do the detour.

We go every few years and have rented from hertz and budget. No major issues with either. Budget tried charging me for fuel but I for some reason took a picture of the fuel gauge when we dropped it off so I just sent that in. I also take picture of any dings/dents when we pick up the car so we can’t be blamed for that (I do that everywhere though).

Like lumpy said they charge a lot. Especially if you need something that seats more people (we get a minivan or a bigger suv). If you have a way to get one off airport it could save you.

I take a picture of the fuel gage at every drop off. I also have a photo of the fuel receipt (have to turn it in for business purposes), but haven't had to produce it (knock on wood).

OP, make sure you allow time to shuttle between the airport and the rental location. I'd budget 30 minutes (including time waiting for the shuttle).
