Ok so everyone knows that old restaurant The Odyssey between test track and world showcase. When are they ever going to do something with that?? It's such a huge area of unused space.

Even if its not a restaurant at least update the building..we went inside to use the bathrooms and I felt like I was transported back to a 1980's restaurant:rotfl::rotfl:

Great Question Lady !

I've heard they do rent it out for special occasions...

But love to hear what others will say...

It isn't unused space, it's just not public space. It is used for special programs and special occasion rental on a fairly regular basis.

Good question and good answer. I wonder the same thing every time I use the bathroom there, too.

Maybe they could update the building a bit at least! It just kinda sticks out like a sore thumb between future world and WS.

Disney doesn't work that way, unless they have a final plan for something they aren't going to spend any money on it.

They left River Country to rot in place instead of tearing it down. A few years ago some bulldozers rolled around the place either because too many people were sneaking in and they wanted to eliminate some of the looky loos or there were rumors of a new DVC resort and they were doing some prep work for surveys.

I know they've had D23 events there in recent years, but that's just a few days each year. I liked when there were cooking demos in there during F&W, it was a nice venue for that, and there was the overflow seating for those who didn't make it in to the actual demo area. Of course, the wait outside could be glorious or miserable depending on the weather.

I'm pretty sure you can rent that space for wedding receptions. I also *think* it was the venue for the Grand Gathering Illuminations Party that I think has since closed.

I went there several times to eat lunch as a kid. It would be terrific if they fixed it up and turned it into a CS or TS restaurant.

Most of the Pleasure Island clubs are just standing around empty too. And they don't use those for anything at all.

A couple of new restaurants have opened in Epcot in the past few years. But they are not operated by Disney. I think there's a general move for outsourcing, at least in Epcot and DTD. So I'm not expecting Disney to turn it into a public restaurant unless they rent it out to someone else to operate.

I've come to realize there is just no rhyme or reason for anything Disney does. I just sit back and enjoy the ride.

And wow you took me back to my first trip ever in 1980 something with my parents when you brought up river country.. I loved that place!!

I went to a special event breakfast there a few years ago so I can verify that they do rent it out. There was a small dias and podium at the front of the restaurant-the side facing the windows. I don't know if this was permanant or set up for the ocassion.

Last time i was in there there was a Wedding reception..It gets used all the time, it is just not open to the public

During our visit last month we noticed a private event going on inside. Lots of people in evening attire with food and drinks. Who knows what it was.
