Welcome to all my friends from the Trip Reports forum! Since wrapping up my trip report back in August, I've kept that thread alive with reports about things going on in my life--particularly updates about my house which was under construction in the fall and was finally completed at the end of November. But when a moderator began warning people to refrain from random, off-topic chit-chat in their trip reports, I realized that it was time to start a new thread in the appropriate forum.

For those who've stumbled upon this thread out of curiosity, you can find out more about me and my family, our WDW trip last July, and events that took place during this past fall in my trip report. Here's the link:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1525129

But for the benefit of any new friends that decide to subscribe to this thread, I'll give a brief introduction of my family and I. I'm Randy (39), and I've been married for nearly 14 years to my wife, Cindy (38). We have two boys--Austin (6) and Andrew (11 months).

I was hoping to start this thread back in December, but I got busy during the holidays and then resumed graduate school earlier this month. For those who don't know, I decided a couple of years ago that I wanted to become a social studies teacher (middle or high school) and am pursuing a master's degree in education. After taking the last two semesters off, I'm now in my fourth semester of grad school, but I'm only taking about 2 classes per semester (I took 3 classes my first two semesters, but now that we have two boys, two classes is about all that I can handle).

After a very busy week of work and school, I decided to take advantage of a relaxing, 3-day weekend (no work or school for me on Monday thanks to the MLK holiday) and get this new thread started. I've got several weeks of photos and reports that I've been waiting to post, but I'll begin with the biggest news of the last couple of weeks--our 11-month-old son, Andrew, is now walking! Back around Christmas, he was trying so hard to start walking, and by the end of December, he was able to take two or three awkward steps before falling down. Finally, on January 3, he was finally able to walk across a room without falling down. On that day, I shot this brief video clip:

When that video was shot, we joked about how he looked like Frankenstein when he was walking, but now, just two weeks later, he's walking with much more ease and confidence (perhaps I should shoot another video clip to show his progress).

Well, I'll close my first post of this thread now so that I can invite my trip report friends to subscribe. I'll be back soon with more photos and commentary!

I'm stopping by to say "Hi" also

Cute thread Randy :thumbsup2

Hiya Randy! Saw your post in Dan's report and came on over.

What a proud poppa you must be!

Hey Lessa! I couldn't find your trip report but now see that it's been moved to the Completed Trip Reports board. Glad you found my new thread. :)

So good to hear from you again Heidi! I was afraid when you decided to end your trip report early that you weren't going to visit the forum any longer, but I'm glad to see you're still around (looks like I'm the one who disappeared for a little while...LOL).

One last message for the evening (early morning actually), and then I'm off to bed. I forgot to mention that Andrew had to have tubes put in his ears last Friday (necessitated after 6 ear infections over the last few months). They also decided to remove his adenoids because they were enlarged. He's doing fine now, but the anesthesia seemed to mess him up for a few days. Earlier this week, he was waking up every one to two hours throughout the night. Cindy and I felt like zombies at work. Finally, he began sleeping better the last couple of nights (only waking up once each night).

Anyway, I've got lots more stuff I've been saving up (Christmas pics, pics from a hiking trip last weekend, and more). Hopefully I'll be able to post some of it tomorrow (well, later today). TTFN ;)

Glad you're back. :cool1:
Video is precious.:cloud9:
I'm waiting now to see how many credits are going to transfer for me to the college I'm starting this summer. Credits are from the 80's:rolleyes1
I really don't want to start over but I will if I have to.:teacher:
Glad Andrew is doing fine after his surgery.
Our DD Stephanie had tubes put in her ears when she was almost a year. She hardly spoke before that point. I guess everything sounded "sloshy" to her.
The day she had the tubes put in her ear, she became a NON STOP talker. Still is to this day. (15 now) Guess she had a lot of making up to do.
Up early here for some reason.:confused3 I'm not much of a morning person. Suppose to snow here in GA. Are ya'll expecting snow?
Can't wait for more pics and updates.popcorn::

Hello Randy. Nice to meet you. :wave2:

Great thread! I haven't finished but I love your TR. It's organized and the pics are fantastic! You're very talented.

Thanks you for sharing :thumbsup2

Hi Randy! :wave2: I remember you from the "Thread Killers" thread, but haven't seen you there in awhile. (I got here from Shmu's pre-trip report) I haven't read your TR yet, but I'll check it out now.

Have fun in the snow today! :goodvibes

I attended college for 3 years back in the late 70's/early 80's before I got married, but never graduated. I went back in 1997 at the age of 37 and all my credits were still good (except for those pesky 'F's :scared1: ) LOL. It did take me 3 more years to graduate, because I changed my major, plus some of the requirements had changed so there were some new classes I had to take (computer, economics, etc). Hopefully you'll get to keep all those hard earned credits!:)

Thanks Shmu! Good to be back. I hope that most, if not all, of your past college credits are accepted.

Andrew babbled a lot before the tubes, and I haven't noticed an increase in babbling since.

Yes, we got a little snow (less than predicted though...I'll tell you more in my next update). How much did y'all get?

Hi Praise2Him! Yes, we had a fun with the small amount of snow we received today (I'll tell more in my next update). How much fell in Jacksonville?

BTW, I have some cousins who live in Jacksonville. For some reason I can't remember their last name. Margaret (my maternal grandmother's neice) and her husband, Paul, have lived there for many years. They're both in their 70's (although Margaret looks about 10 years younger than she actually is), and have two children who are a little older than me (I'm 39)--Tony and Susan.

SNOW

Today we had snow for the first time since moving into our new house last month. While we did get some snow in Birmingham about a year ago, there was no accumulation due to the ground being too warm. This was the first time since Austin was a baby that we had some snow on the ground (although it didn't last for long), so he was very excited about that.

The local meteorologists were all predicting 1 to 2 inches of snow for Birmingham today, but we got no more than half an inch. Within a couple of hours after the snow stopped falling, most of it had melted. But it did stay on the ground long enough to get these photos:

Christmas Eve

Here are some photos from Christmas Eve at my inlaw's house. This was Andrew's first Christmas, and he would have been happy if we'd just given him boxes and wrapping paper to play with. :)

Christmas Morning

Here are photos from Christmas morning at our house with the boys enjoying their "Santa" gifts. I love the shot of Andrew trying to feed Elmo. :lmao:

Christmas Afternoon

Late in the afternoon on Christmas day, we drove up to Falkville, AL (near Decatur) to my stepfather's sister's house. Her house is surrounded by a lot of open land, and Austin enjoyed playing outside while we were there.

These photos of Austin climbing a tree turned out quite nicely:

For those of you who were following the updates of our new house on my trip report, here are photos showing the rooms with furniture and other decor. These photos were shot on the Saturday after Christmas when we had an Open House for family and friends (which explains the goodies on the dining room table and kitchen island):
