Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan

Has anyone taken their children on this excursion? I am looking into it and wanted to hear some thoughts/feedback.

Should I be concerned with booking something on my own and not with DCL? What should I be looking for?

Also, about this specific activity, I am concerned about my DS5. I am aware that they do not have kiddie harnesses for little ones riding the horses. My DS is not the most focused child , and while he loves horses, he only has experience on short pony rides while being strapped in.
Is this too ambitious? How well do they manage the little ones..esp. if they start to get a little worn out.

I know that ultimately, it is up to me to decide. Like I said, he is usually great, but I can just see him getting excited if he sees something interesting and forget to hold on to the horse. .

What's your experience?

Thank you....and BTW...once I have gone on this cruise, what will I do? You all have been wonderful with your advice and stories...I don't want to leave..but the cruise will be over!

There are a ton of reports of this excursion both on this board and on cruisecritic.com; just do a search. To me, it's almost comical that virtually everyone who does a Mexican Riviera trip report does this excursion. People rave about Randi in an almost cult-like manner, but she was very rude to me in our e-mail exchanges, so I did not book with her. If you are like everyone else, though, you will apparently have a great time.

Or just post your questions on the July 2 meet thread--it's still very active and they will tell you all you want to know about Randi's.

We had booked a ride with Randi but cancelled when she told me that not all of the ferries that take you to Stone Island will have life jackets to fit the kids. She said that in the boats without child-sized life jackets, the kids will just wear adult-sized life jackets.

I have to agree with newfamilyman and say that the e-mail she sent when I canceled the tour was very rude.

We had a reservation to ride with Randi and when we arrived the reservation wasn't there. It turns out Randi had been having someone help her out with emails and this person was messing things up and was no longer helping her out. Randi seemed quite frustrated by it. It was this person that I'd been in contact with. I don't know, but perhaps that is what happened with CarrieP and NewFamilyMan. At any rate, we got to ride and enjoyed the day.
