DH ran over a nail, and now it's stuck in the tire. Is that patchable? It's close to the tread of the tire... and these tires aren't even a couple years old yet. It's a 2006 Toyota Sienna, tires are from National Tire and Battery. Any idea of tire patching cost, and if we should take it to NTB to be fixed or Toyota? DH's tire pressure was down to the 20's. We filled it up to 35, but definitely want it fixed!! :confused3

sometimes it is & sometimes it isn't. I think it depends on where in the tire. I know I have done that several times & there were times that it was patched & times & had to get a new tire...

depends on where it is and also if you have had that tire patched before. It's not expensive at all to have it patched...atleast it hasn't been the MANY times we have ran something over.

did you purchases road hazard protection with your tires? if yes then it is covered, if no patching is not very expensive. Take it to where you bought the tires.

I had a nail in my tire about a week ago and went to a local shop. They "plugged' the tire for me for $7.:cool1:

This happened to me just last week!!! Ran over a large type screw somewhere. I brought it to the tire shop that we bought the tires from and they plugged and patched it within 15minutes. Cost $15, very inexpensive.
Hope this helps.

Do you have a Discount Tire near you? They patched mine for free and I had not bought my tires there. But they definitely got my business when I had to replace my tires. Excellent customer service! If the nail is near the outside wall of the tire they may not be able to patch.

I got a nail toward the outside of my tire about a year ago and after 2 shops told me it could not be patched pep boys did it for about 5 bucks.

DH is in the car business. If the hole is in the tread area it is safe to patch. If it is at the corner where the tread meets the sideway, or it is in the sidewall itself--it is unsafe to patch it.

Yep, it should not cost more than 20 bucks.

Keeping it inflated (maybe even a little extra) and keeping the object In is best.....but get it repaired promptly.

Remember, they have liability if they bend the rules and then you crash. The tire needs an honest evaluation.

They should spin balance the tire after the repair. Just patching it and sending you down the road is not good enough.

If it is in the side wall of the tire then you are probably out of luck.

Road hazard coverage is a good thing...

One of the big things it depends on is whether you have the run-flat tires, which I am assuming you don't. I know the AWD Sienna came with them because, I think, of the room needed for the transmission linkages for the rear, but maybe the other models didn't have them.

Normal tires can usually be patched unless, as someone mentioned, the hole is in the side-wall instead of the tread area of the tire.

Good luck, and hope it's cheap!!!

They can be patched if they are in the tread area. I had a nail in my tire 2 weeks ago and took it to the Honda place and they patched it free. You might want to check with NTB...they might patch it free since you bought your tires there.

I had a nail in the sidewall of the tire. Not fixable - new tire for 2008 Highlander was $280:scared1:

I picked up on of the razor tips off the box cutter from a home under construction I was parked near.
Came home, family took the tire off and plugged it up.I have not had a problem with it at all.I think if it is the side wall area the tire needs to be replaced.

A straight in and a plug does well.
