Has anyone used it? I am really liking the way that it looks in pictures, but I am not a fan of sponge painting and I'm afraid that it will look like that...

I like the look of "Ranchitos Red" :goodvibes But I need some input... no one I know has ever used it.

THANKS!!!!

I've never done it but was just watching a special on HGTV with a family using "suede paint". The lady that was the professional says you buy a special kind of brush which is in the faux painting section and make tight criss cross strokes on the wall starting at the corner and working your way out. She says you have to finish a wall once you start or there'll be a definite drying line. It looked really good when they finished and nothing like what sponge painting looks like. It really did look like suede walls. Hopefully other people here have done it to be able to actually give you personal experiences. Good luck!

We just did it in our half bath downstairs and I LOVE it! I will say though that it's a lot of work and I don't think I'd have the patience to do it to a larger room.

It's not hard to do, just time consuming.

It doesn't not look like sponge painting at all, if you do it right it will really look like suede! My friend did it in one of her bathrooms and didn't do it right and when she saw ours she was like "oh...that's what it's supposed to look like!" :rotfl: You just have to do the brush strokes in random patterns to make it look like brushed suede.

Like I said it's time consuming so if it's a large room, I'd think twice about doing it, for our small half bath it took us a whole day since you have to use a hand brush to do the second coat to make the suede look.

We did this technique in the master bedroom many years ago. It is not difficult to do, however it is time comsuming. However, the results look great.

I was interested in this, but have held back because I wondered how easy it would be to cover over when you change decor or colors later? Anybody ever paint over this before?

We did the walls in our family room which was a large room with high ceilings. I loved it but my husband said to forget even thinking about doing it anywhere else because it was so much work (and took a lot of paint). It also meant going up and down a ladder 100 times more than a regular paint job. It took us one weekend to do each wall.

Just wanted to add, we did this to our living room. I LOVE the results. We are planning on moving and we want to do it again but yes, it is time consuming. It took us a weekend- Friday abt 3 hours to do the base coat and all day Saturday and Sunday to do the rest!--to do two coats, (the first one was fast, bc it was regular rolling, but the second took forever even with three of us doing it!) but some areas were still a little "different" looking so we made the decision to spend the next weekend doing a third coat.

Pro's - Really nice looking if you do it right, it looks like brushed suede, not really difficult if you just follow the directions, you can't really make a mistake unless you try to "patch up" or you stop in the middle of a wall.
Con's- Expensive paint, uses a lot of paint, time consuming, impossible if you can't go up and down the ladder 1000 times.

ETA- I meant to say it is actually Ranchitos Red. If you still haven't taken the plunge and want to see pics of the color in real life, PM me!

My friend did this in her home. And it looked great! But then she told me the pain of cleaning it. (she has kids and a dog) So as long as you don't have messy wall people in you house- it looks great.
She ended up painting over it and it required the heavy duty kilz kind of primer but that was it.

Don't know much about the suede paint but I was at Home Depot yesterday to pick up some more RL paint since I had to repaint a wall I had at home. No more RL PAINT! They said that Ralph Lauren is discontinuing making paint.

Just thought id share that for future reference. If you use it now you might never be able to match it again.

Some friend did one wall in a guest bedroom and they say the same thing-cleaning is very hard. They did a darker blue so dust shows on it but you can't just wipe it down like a regular wall. They love the look (so do I) but hate the upkeep.

We used the suede paint in a blueish-gray color. It came out great. It was time consuming to get it to look right, but it was worth it. I would post a picture, but we moved out of the house we used it in a few months ago.

We did the suede this past weekend and it turned out amazing!!! We did 3 walls in a flat Behr milk chocolate color and the accent wall behind our bed in the suede "Vera Caruz" which is a baby blue-ish color.

It turned out SO pretty!!!! Thanks so much for all the tips! :flower3:

I have been trying forever for this look and believe me I have tried different brands of suede, different techniques and wanted to cry because I worked so hard and never got any results like the photos. So I did some internet research and found out Ralph Lauren is the best so I hope they don't pull this off for sale online as I heard some were trying to do that. I gave up on one big box that had a different brand of suede that was terrible. anyway, long story short, I did a tall stairwell and another big wall and it went on so easy and it turned out just like the pictures. All I used was the small roller, larger roller and paint brush. Only thing was I had to touch up on the ceiling where the wall and ceiling met later but I got it done much faster and easier than any other product or technique I have used before. No rag rolling just did random x's and the key is to work fast and then go back over any little part of the wall you want to look better. Also key is to paint a similar but lighter or darker color under it to save RL paint as it is a lifesaver. Please don't ever take it away because I have three other rooms and maybe more I want to do now that I found this miracle paint.
