So I am driving home from work, around 6:30 P.M., on a four lane highway. Speed limit is 45 mph. I come up to an intersection, the light is green, and the car in front of me slams on the brakes. I also slam on my brakes, and notice the reason she stopped - a fire engine is approaching the intersection from the left. I come to a stop, inches from her back bumper, then WHAM!!!!!! the guy behind me does not stop. He hit me, then I hit the car in front of me. The impact throws me back into the seat, and the seat is stuck back at about a 20 degree angle. He hit me hard enough that his horn is stuck on, and I instantly get a pain in the middle of my back.
After the fire truck gets through the intersection, the car in front of me pulls through the intersection, into the right lane, and puts on her hazard lights. I pull through and get behind her, and also turn on my hazard lights. The guy behind me pulls through, stops behind me, AND THEN TAKES OFF!!!!, horn blaring, and roars down the street. Good thing I have my IPAQ with me, as I scribble down his license plate, make, model and color.
I called *999 right away to report the accident, and as I am speaking with the PD, the woman in front of me gets out, with her cell phone in her hand. Thank God she was OK. I get out of my car, and ask her if she is all right, which she is. About this time the Police arrive and I quickly tell them about the guy who left the scene, and I gave all the information to them. They ask me if I am OK, and I told them that my back was hurting, so they called an ambulance. Because it's a back injury, they put me on the back board, put me in a neck collar, and strap me down for the trip to the hospital. At the ER, the doctor checked me out and since there were no signs of trauma or tingling in any extremity, told me to watch for signs of pain in the next 48 hours, and if it gets bad, to go see my doctor.
As I was leaving the hospital, the officer from the accident is there and he told me that they caught the guy a couple of towns over. He said he was going to "bring him back in handcuffs, and charge him with hit-and-run". I later found out the guy actually has insurance
confused:
Why did he leave the scene), and that the police wrote him three tickets.
So I spent the whole weekend with a nasty cold and a sore body. Now, I get to deal with his insurance adjusters, and trying to get my car fixed.
What a weekend.....
