When it rains are the parks still open? And what suggestions can you make for activities to do. Thanks.

Yes the parks are still open. Its a good time to go since lots of people don't want to venture out in the rain. Bring along a poncho and enjoy yourself.

I absolutely agree - the lines are much shorter in rainy weather! The showers tend to move in and out rather quickly, and it keeps things cool. :umbrella:

On one of our trips a few years back in May, a "tropical-like depression" hovered over the state of Florida for six straight days (out of our eight day WDW vacation). It was unusual weather for that time of year. Luckily, I was a Girl Scout Leader at the time, and had packed my Coleman rain suit that I used for spring camping trips. It was a clear suit, pants and a jacket, that was worn over clothes. The jacket had pockets, a zipper and a hood. I wore the hood over a baseball cap so I could see in the pouring rain.

A rainy day at WDW is still better than being at home, but needless to say this trip was a little bit of a challenge. We're leaving for our next WDW vacation in six days. I've had a hard time finding the Coleman clear suit, but I picked up a few Plastex clear rain jackets for the family (just it case)! :thumbsup2

The rain just makes things more interesting. It cools things down, and make the outside rides, let's say more entertaining.

They're still opened. I remember one May it started downpouring in MK and everyone left. DH and I had the whole park to ourselves. Within 20 minutes the rain had stopped, so we've learned to always wait out the storms. They never usually last that long. If it gets really bad you can always do inside attractions or shop until the rain lets up.

We usually just wait in a shop or under an awning until the downpour stops, then put on the poncho and go on with our day.

** OP- We love the Charleston, SC area. Hubby and I would like to retire there.

Generally the only time they close things like outdoor rides/attractions is when there's thunder and lightening. And they will close the water parks if there's a lightening storm. Otherwise, it's pretty much business as usual. Bring some raingear (poncho, etc.) and take advantage of the fact that the parks tend to empty out when it rains!

I remember the rainy days of may 2009 it was the best trip we had , empty lines no crowds the kids played in the puddles and had a blast
