Rainy Days

Rain is forecast during our trip next week. I know that that is good news/bad news. The good news is that the park crowds will be low, the bad news - we get wet. For those of you who have been there in the rain - what attractions shut down in the rain?

Teacups and Alice are always the first to close during rain. The only other things that might be affected are the EP in DCA and the Fireworks (but only if it's a real downpour).

Does the DL parade still go on? What about Splash Mountain?

We still went on Splash Mountain and Grizzly River Run in the rain (no lightning) and we were wearing ponchos so we didn't get more wet on our trip last January.

It rained when we were there on the 16th of this month and they did a shortened version of the parade. Just the main floats with characters on them--no extra dancers or anything like that. We took the Holiday Tour and our tour guide said if the rain is real heavy, they do a rainy day cavalcade where the characters just go past on a bus or something like that.

Rain does keep the crowds down a little, but it can also make it cold and miserable. Just be prepared with warm clothes and those ponchos are $6 or $7 well spent! Have a great trip!

Looking at the extended forecast on weather.com, they show only a 60% chance of showers on Thursday, January 4.

Not to get your hopes up, but rainy weather forecasts for Southern California are notoriously unreliable. They'll tell us there's a "chance of rain" when it's already pouring outside; or they'll have us preparing for "the Mother of All Storms" which then turns out to be nothing more than a light drizzle. (Frequently, storms from the north lose power and/or turn inland before making it down this far.)

Today's forecast in the L.A. Times, for example, says that a "strong Alaskan storm system" will be "generating scattered heavy showers." But from where I sit (near LAX), the sun is shining and any clouds I see are far away to the northeast.

It was pooring last night though...

Yeah not to be a downer as I know it's very unpredictable, but last month we only had a 20% chance and it rained all night long. I hate DL in the rain, I think I am one of the few that can't stand it.

I don't like to walk around wet, ponchos are just uncomfortable to have that sticking to your head all night, and we have strollers with is which are impossible to find spots to park without them getting soaked while on a ride.

That said, there are a few bright spots such as thin crowds and small lines and if I didn't have little ones with me, I would definitely take advantage.

But I will be hoping for lots of good old CA sunshine for you!

The best day we ever had in Disneyland was a rainy day in February many years ago. No lines at all & it didn't rain that hard. Just enough to keep the crowds away. (no kids with us!) Another rainy day in January several years ago (with kids) - they closed Main Street because of flooding!

im just speaking that IF we do get lightning, that happens... it happens sometimes I used to work at Knotts as a ride operator, they shut us ALL down because it was thundering pretty badly.

We used to live in SoCal. I can't remember that much lightening, especially not in January.

I'm going to look into getting some better quality rain ponchos before we go so we can be comfortable if we get stuck with rain.

My aunt & uncle always talk about when they went to WDW for the first time - it was during a hurricane.

well, kcal9 just showed thunderstorm last night in San Gabriel Valley... looks crazy...

Pretty much every ride was shut down this summer during the crazy downpour and thunder/lightning storms. It was a ghost town. BUT! As soon as the rain stops, things pick back up QUICK
