Rainy Days at the Fort

Alas it is scheduled to rain during my trip. What can you do to salvage a rainy day at the fort?Remember we are tent camping so a Disney movie marathon is not going to work for us.

I wouldn't get to concerned about the forecast, I watched it for a month before we left, and it changed every day..... One thing about florida weather, if you don't like it, wait 10 minutes it will change.

I can't help you much with the tenting thing, we rode the buses to other resorts and checked them out....

I always plan for the worst downpour. The tent set up has to be able to accommodate you outside, but covered up from getting wet. That way you can get out of the tent.

For us, if it's going to rain .....we'll be at the parks. Throw on your poncho and just go! I think it's really about being prepared and your own state of mind.

I know it's constantly changing but yesterday was the first time rain was predicted and not just rain thunderstorms. I just need a back up plan in case it's really bad. I actually enjoy playing in the rain but I don't think I would like the lighting too much

I tent camped many times at the fort.Most important is keep everything dry.I always had an xtra tarp or two with me so I could enclose the screen room.We played board games etc.Most of the time we just went to the parks or sometimes we visit the other resorts.Nothing like sitting in front of the fireplace at the Wilderness Lodge.....Just remember your on vacation,relax and go with whatever is thrown at you.

The rainy day was scheduled to be our fort day but we can switch it to another day and go to Epcot on the rainy day.

take a boat over to CR ride the monorail and look at the resorts, go to down town, Disney Quest, or on with the poncho and off to a park ya go. we went to a water park the day it rained on our trip, it was a small crowd. GO FIGURE? guess they didn't want to get wet....

Great time to sit on the porch at Trails End....catch up on some disney sleep and laundry.

In 2002, we hit the fort in an unusual monsoon period. Not the usual Florida daily rain spells but 6 -7 days of deluges. We found most rides are great in the rain and we just kept on going. Lines weren't long and we were able to ride over and over again on Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. It only affected some Character sightings. One of our fondest memories is spending an afternoon in EPCOT's France during a tough lightening storm.

A good pancho and flip flops will get you many a mile in the park. A great tarp set up will keep you dry in the tent.

The rain is why I'm adamant about having some type of shelter at the entrance of my tent (or T@B). Being stuck in the tent during rain is no fun. An appropriately placed shelter allows you to keep the wet shoes outside, the wet ponchos outside, and allows you to sit outside during the rain.

Dont' worry as the cowboys say "Ride it hard and put it away wet and worry about it tomorrow". In other words don't sweat the small details, but may a couple of "giant garbage bags" might be good.

Speaking of tenting and the rain...how DO you enclose your screen room with tarps? I just got a screen house for my b-day (thanks DH!) . It's the 13 X 15 from WalMart. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8571848 Also, do y'all use tarps in addition to your rainflys when it rains? And last but not least, what do you do when it's raining when you're wanting to set up camp? ...After I get back, I'll have to repay all this great advice! (We're going the first week in May.)

Setting up in the rain sucks .....big time!!

You have to have a good rainsuit and hope you packed properly so that you only need to get your tent and shelter out before everything else. Then, you move your vehicle under your tarp or whatever and just get everything else into the tent.
