I'm headed down on Wed for a little break from the cold and sit by the pool. But the weather forecast is rain for the whole 4 days I'll be there. I'm not doing any parks. I was just wondering what other things there are to do in rainy days that are free or cheap.

First of all, ignore the forecast.

Resort hopping. Check out the Poly construction. Grab lunch and/or cocktails at the monorail resorts. Downtown Disney. Catch a movie. Go bowling. More cocktails. The truth is, WDW is designed for you to be outside a good bit of the time. Just don't assume that you are going to have day after day of non-stop rain. That is rare.

I totally agree with Robo. The forecast will change eight times before you get there! We are heading down next Sunday. I have been watching the weather, and it has literally changed several times a day. Also, we have found that even when it does rain, it rarely lasts for very long, so you shouldn't have an entire day ruined. That being said, Downtown Disney can be managed on a rainy day, hopping in and out of shops. You can also catch a movie there, or even bowling! Or you can resort hop for free. If you do the Monorail loop, you can stay dry the entire time.

Are you looking for things in and around Disney, or are you open to exploring other areas of Orlando?

No just Disney, won't have a car. The plan was to sit by the pool, but the weather doesn't look promising. I really didn't want to spend money, except on food and drinks, and that would be with reward points and gift cards. So that's why looking for free stuff.

I agree with the resort hopping, I do it every time I'm at Disney. It's fun to see the different resorts and check them out. I know Boardwalk has a tour and I think Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom do as well. You can check that out on the disney web site. I could sit in the lobby of the Grand Floridian and read for hours and most of the resorts have little sitting areas tucked away for that. You could also wander around downtown Disney, the stores are all pretty close to together so if you have a poncho or umbrella it's no big deal. And I also agree to ignore the weather forecast, it's rarely right.

The weather forecast keeps getting worse. I was going down for sun. Ive done lots of hotel hopping, I love it too. I was just wondering if there's anything new. I've heard that Grand Floridian serves tea and sandwiches between 3 and 6. Is that just for their guests?

No, they'll take anyones money. You have to make an ADR.

You could do a resort progressive meal - window shop in DTD - I think I read somewhere that AOA has animation classes like at Hollywood Studios. There are the movies pool side at night - Yee Haw Bob at POR if it is horribly rainy you could catch an early matinee at AMC (not free but 10 bucks for a couple of hours)

It's now supposed to rain exactly each day we are there and get sunny the day after we've left. Ugghhhhhh!

Same here! We are flying down from Iowa on Wednesday and staying until Tuesday, but leaving too early to go the parks. I was so sad to see the forecast with rain every day because this is our first time AND my son's 9th birthday celebration. I guess a rainy day at Disney World is better than a sunny day anywhere else though :).

The afternoon tea at the GF is great but it's a hard ressie to get and you might have problems getting one now. There are menus posted somewhere here on the boards, it's not free, I think the cheapest one is around $35. I love it, do it every time I go to Disney.

Do some serious window shopping at DTD, most of the stores are connected so you can stay out of the rain. You could also catch a movie at DTD. Another idea is to catch a bus to AKL they have covered viewing areas where you can sit and watch the animals.

@klynn888 a rainy or overcast day in the parks is really ok, just dress appropriately. You'll stay cooler, and most rides are indoors or covered.

I'm not going to the parks, this trip was to get sun and sit by the pool! But at least at WDW there's stuff to do even outside of the parks.

@loves to dive I saw the price of the tea, that's a little more than I want to spend on tea and sandwiches. I thought it would be cheaper. I'd rather do a nice restaurant for that price.

Still looks to be overcast the whole time, not as much rain though.

Gotta go, got a plane to catch in a few hours!

Cool and grey the whole trip. The weather report was correct. My escape to the sunshine had failed. It was supposed to help my seasonal depression. It's still better than being at work though.

It's been grey and cold every single day we have been here. According to WESH news down here Sunday is rain but it's going to be in the 80s and dry the rest of the week.
