Rainy Day at Castaway?

We leave on Sunday for a quick 4-nighter on the Magic. Right now, the forecast for our departure day and Castaway day looks really wet. Of course, we will never let that ruin the magic... but I was curious...

Does anyone have experience with rainy Castaway or departure days? What did you do to make sure your day was still fantastic. We have a 15-year old DS and a 10-year old DD.

At castaway cay keep swimming. Its starts to rain most people in the water head for shore. I don't get it you are swimming you are wet as long as there is no lightning or thunderstorm enjoy

I agree, never understood this thought process. Look for lightning or listen for thunder. If neither are present, enjoy the cooler temps and as Dory said, "Just keep swimming!" I do always tease my kids when we are at the pool, lake ocean or wherever and it starts to rain. I tell them we better get out the water before we get wet.

I will take a rainy day on CC then a sunny day home.

Showers in the Bahamas tend to move quick, so hopefully it will just be a shower or 2 and not a wash out.

But realize that the stuff you're brining off the ship will get wet. So plan for that. Put cover ups in ziptop bags, don't bring a kindle with you, have a waterproof camera or case for your phone etc.

We once had to jump out of the water quick at Boardwalk when it rained, not because we feared being wet, but because we had to change what we were doing with our stuff. And of course being in the water means everyone is. If you've got a non water person who was lazing on a chair, it's not going to be fun for that person if it rains.

We had a rainy morning at Castaway Cay once. The lifeguards made everyone get out of the water (I did not see any lightening but it was stormy/cloudy). It cleared off in the afternoon though. We hung out at the covered picnic tables at Serenity Bay. Most people went back to the ship so we had an almost deserted beach for the afternoon!

It rained pretty harm in the middle of our day at CC. We ate lunch and had a few drinks under the shelters. After about 2 hours it cleared up. Most people went back to the ship while we enjoyed the beach mostly to our selves for another few hours. Those 2 hours kind of stunk but we ended up having a great late afternoon and took full advantage of all the discarded inter-tubes and floats! If it starts to rain make sure to take your towels to the shelters with you. Ours got wet and they didn't have any dry ones on the island to give us.

We had a rainy day at CC years ago when our kids were small. It never stormed, just overcast and light rain all day. It did not keep us from swimming or having a great time, I think our stuff was protected in waterproof bags or something, I don't remember it being an issue. BTW, we are also cruising on the Magic with you, it is our 25th wedding anniversary, now the kids are all teenagers, they get their own cabin, hubby and I get some privacy, YES. Hoping to have a fantastic cruise, even if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Thanks everyone! I know we will make the most of it. I would be inclined to go back to the ship... but if it's just rain, I think we'll hang out. A deserted beach sounds nice... rain or shine!

We had a rainy morning in December and we took that time to walk around and enjoy the island pretty deserted. It stopped raining after awhile but the beach still seemed pretty empty. Though it never got sunny, we had a great day!

I put my Kindle (not a fire) in a gallon zip lock and read through the plastic.

Rainy and cold once - the ship had docked in the middle of the night to even make it - everyone was on board fairly early in the afternoon so we pulled out and looked for better weather.

On our CC day it was beautiful in the morning. Unfortunately (and especially on a cruise) I am not a morning person. We got to the beach around 10am. By 1030 it started raining. Sideways, hard, very painful rain. We tried hiding under our umbrella, but the wind started up so the lifeguards had to close all of the beach umbrellas. Then it was a mad dash to the covered areas, where we stood and watched the rain for about an hour. It stopped just in time for lunch, and then started back up just as we went back to the beach. My daughter and I headed back to the ship. By the time we made it back to our stateroom, they had made everyone go back to the ship. It stormed the rest of the afternoon. We enjoyed the ship the rest of the day, I think we even watched a movie that afternoon. It was disappointing, though, that was the first time my daughter had ever been to a real beach. Keeping my fingers crossed for better weather this summer!

The good news is that in the summer the rain typically is quicker to move on
The bad news is that summer brings lightning with more frequency than other times of the year. In most cases if there is a lightning strike within 5 to 10 miles of the location you are, they will get everyone out of the water and encourage taking shelter. And then after the lightning strikes have moved out and it has been calm for 30 consecutive minutes, they will allow everyone back in the water.

I hope you have the sun out and no lightning type of rain on your vacation so your daughter can enjoy the beach.

We were there last weekend and the lifeguard said it had only rained once while he was there in the last 3 1/2 months. We were also there in december and started out cloudy but downpoured about 12:30pm and never let up. So glad we got off by 9, so we got 1/2 day in. We waited it out under a pavilion for over an hour, then went back to the ship. Disney staff was waiting with warm dry towels, what a great touch. They added some extra activities, we just hit a movie.

This past January my wife and I booked a cabana on Serenity bay. Due to expected rough seas the next day when we were supposed to to go to CC, the captain docked at the island around midnight. Due to weather, all excursion on the island were canceled. We spent most of the day in the cabana and moved inside and closed the doors when the rain starting coming down.

We will be joining you. I hope it doesn't rain either, but if it does we will probably just hang out at the island as long as it doesn't rain too hard or there's lightening. Can't wait!!

It rained pretty badly when we were there a few days before Christmas last year. The rain was the worst in the morning, but cleared up after lunch. We noticed some of the excursions were cancelled like parasailing. We just stayed in the water and tried to enjoy the fact that many stayed on the ship. It did stop us from wandering around the shops and the post office and getting any photos with characters on the island. All in all, we just made the best of it and am glad we didn't stay on the boat.
