Rainforest Cafe?

We had originally booked Chef Mickey for dinner on our first night, but since we are on the meal plan, and my parents, who will be joining us a few days, are not, I thought $28 plus tax and tip was a little steep for dinner.

We're now thinking about checking in, resting a little, and then heading to DTD to shop and eat at Rainforest Cafe. I know the food isn't spectacular or anything, but does the atmoshere make up for that somewhat? Or maybwe we should eat somewhere else at DTD?

Thanks for any suggestions :)

All I can say is a little. It's not one of my favorite places to go to, but the kids love it. I think if you're looking to come in under $28 you might find that difficult to do. The food not bad and the atmosphere is fun and we'll be going there for lunch when we're at DTD one day. Have fun.

We've never eaten at the RFC in DTD but have eaten at the RFC in AK. All I can say is that my DH begged me not to make him eat there again on this vacation. :rotfl: I don't mind it and thought it was a fun place to eat. I've always thought the food was a little odd but enjoyable. But I'll concede and not make him go this time.

Good luck with your choice, I'm also curious to hear what recommendations people have for DTD. :sunny:

I like the atmosphere there. I think it's a cool place. Like you said, the food isn't great, but it's edible, so I'll say it's a pretty good choice for you. :bounce:

I wouldn't eat at Rainforest cafe on my WDW vacation, the food is only so-so and you can find rainforest cafe in many big cities anyway. (Galveston Island and Katy, TX)
How about try something more one of a kind "Disney" -- like Chef Mickey.

I thought the RFC was a little pricey, and for the kids meals, drinks aren't included, like they are at many Disney places.

Funny, but EVERYONE in my family says it is a MUST on EVERY vacation! We all love RFC!!! We find the food to be excellent (chicken fried chicken is outrageous!), and the atmosphere is outstanding! I'd say try it! Hopefully you'll like it!! :teeth:

The atmosphere is good and the food we've had has also been good, but it's not cheap and the service is slooooooooow more often than not. Honestly, though we like RFC, I'd opt for Chef Mickey's if I was in your situation. :)

DH and I eat there once every trip. Love the atmosphere and we have never had a bad meal there. The prices are a bit steep but you pay for the atmosphere and for being on disney property. :goodvibes

Is Chef Mickey's at DTD ?

I would much prefer RC over CM as far as food is concerned. We really enjoyed the food at RC and the theming is great, especially if you have kids. I'm not sure if you will find it much cheaper though. All prices at Disney are steep! DTD is a great way to spend your first night though if you don't plan on doing a park.

Chef Mickey's is at the Contemporary Resort. It is a character buffet. It is on the level of the hotel where you can see the monorails go through. It has a fun, festive atmostphere! :goodvibes

For adults, considering that you get a buffet including drinks and dessert, CM is probably comparable in price to what you'd pay at RC, maybe a little less. For kids, the price could be a lot less at RC, especially since RC considers kids to be those 12 and under.

That said, we really liked the food at RC. I had steak and shrimp, which was very good, for $22.99. There are also less expensive entrees. Our group of 4 adults and 4 kids split a combo appetizer, which was also very good. I also liked the atmosphere.

If you are concerned about the price, you could buy dinner for your parents on your meal plan and pay cash for a meal later at a less expensive place. I would agree that the atmosphere at CM is well worth the cost.

I thought the only RFC at Disney was in AK? Is there a RFC at DTD as well?

I have not eaten at the DTD RFC-- but we had a great experince at the AK RFC. I would certainly choose this for dinner over CM ! I can't remember what my family ate, but I ordered the appetizer combo, and it was FABULOUS!!! The BEST chickn fingers and sauce, crab dip, Southwestern eggrolls, and the other item escapes me at the moment. Really yummy stuff!

Thanks for your responses. We have been to the RFC at AK, but not since baby came along. :) We really think she'll like the animals and the atmosphere. We plan on doing CM later in the trip, after my parents have left. And even though some of the meals at RFC are on the high end, I don't see all for of us adults spending $30+ on a meal (like we would at CM). I'm thinking maybe we'll get a big appetizer and my mom and I can split an entree, and we'll just bring some food for DD. Plus, we have the Buy One Get One Free coupons for sundaes at Ghirardelli for dessert!

Thanks again for the responses. :)
