our family have looked over many menus, some we've already tried some we'd like to,but one we have all decided has a little we'd all like is the Rainforest Cafe, so this will be the place to go this next trip, my question is though in your opinion...which one is better the one in DTD or AK?? I want the kids to really enjoy themselves, along with DH who is a big steak person..thanks ahead of time!:)

We really enjoyed our meals at the one in DTD. There were 12 of us with a wide variety of meals chosen. Service was great and the food was delicious.

After we ate, everyone enjoyed stopping in the various shops. It was really laid back and nice.

The Rainforest cafe in Downtown disney is being completely refurbished. The article is below. It's supposed to reopen in the fall.

Rainforest Cafe Refurbishment is expected to be completed in fall 2012. Rainforest Cafe will add a new "Lava Lounge" bar area and recreate the restaurant's outdoor theming with a brand new iconic volcano that features a new dramatic show. The new volcano includes elements such as fire, LED lava flow, steam and sound effects to create a volcanic eruption every half hour as a show for Guests in the Marketplace. The restaurant will remain open during the construction, however large construction walls will be in place to block most of the work from view.
Construction has begun on Splitsville, a 50,000-square-foot upscale entertainment center that combines bowling with billiards, dining, music and nightlife. Splitsville is expected to open Fall of 2012

Got to agree with Deb & Bill, there is nothing to recommend one over the other.

ok now ya'll got me worried,so thier really that bad? Was trying to pick a place that had a variety of food to choose from and that the kids would enjoy..you've got me thinkin we may need to look over some more places...thanks for the input;)

We love Rainforest Cafe but like T Rex better. The food is ok at both but you go more for the experience. I am a Rainforest fan I have been to 4 of them all over the states but we went to T Rex at downtown Disney this last time and my kids LOVED it. Hope this helps a little.

We like Rainforest Cafe and have eaten at both. I would say choose whichever fits into your schedule better. The one at DTD will not be closed during the rehab, but the exterior won't be pretty with the construction walls. We use the one at DTD more often because we stay at POFQ or POR and the boat drop off is right next to the restaurant.

No, the food at Rainforest isn't that bad. :) You guys will have a great dinner, the kids will love it!

While I would choose T-Rex or Rainforest (only b/c we live close to 2 of them), I would say choose the DTD one. AK doesn't have but 3 sit down restaurants, so you know they will be very crowded. And unless you are going to catch it on the way in or out of the park, it is very out of the way.

Unfortunately, that hasn't been my experience and I've been to both at WDW and the one at DL. But unless you experience it, you won't know whether you like it or not. OP, go ahead and try it. Your family may like it. Mine didn't, but our friends love it.

Thanks for all the opinions, appreciate it!:thumbsup2
most of our trips have been trying snacks or turkey legs at the parks and eating offsite, this year we wanted to make a reservation at a nice place for once! We are also looking at the 50's or Sci Fi in HS,they look interesting! Again thanks!:goodvibes

Rainforest Cafe is IMHO about the same as Planet Hollywood...the food is okay but you really go for the experience. My sweetpeas love the place so we go. When the servers are having a good day, it is kind of fun but very loud.

Our 1st (and what will be our ONLY) experience with Rainforest Cafe ever was with the AK location. First off they lost our reservation and spoke to us as if we were lying to them and that we were committing a criminal act by even trying to get a table.

Fortunately, I had brought my ADR confirmation information with me.

Unfortunately, their response to my confirmation # for the ADR they lost was to get even more snotty and then act like they were doing us a tremendous favor by seeing if it was possible to maybe work us in. We sat in the gift shop for 45 minutes before they grumpily seated us. I think they were hoping we'd simply go away, but as the AK had closed for the night by then, and we didn't have an ADR for any of the other sit down restaurants at the resort or wherever, we stuck it out.

After another 45 minutes waiting for our food to be delivered, none of it was edible. I don't even remember what my DH & I got but they were both awful. Even my DS's $8 hot dog was like rubber and the bun was completely stale. If they can't even get a basic hot dog right, what can they cook?

So please be forewarned. If you do decide to try it, make sure you have your printed confirmation information with you. And good luck. I hope your experience is better than ours was.

(And, in case anyone is wondering, the host's snotty attitude toward us was not warranted. We were nothing but pleasant to him regarding their screwup of losing our ADR. I am sure by the end of the night we had a less than friendly look on our faces, but in no way did we pick a fight with the host (or give any other form of attitude to him) when we arrived. And I only say this because I often take bad reviews of a server's/host's/hostess's negative attitude with a grain of salt, because I know people in the service industry often put up with a lot of bad behavior from their customers and negative responses back are often warranted. That WAS NOT the case here.)
