Rainforest Cafe dilemma

Thank you. I figured it must be somesort of quote line, but I guess I am just not as "Disney" as some of the rest of you :lmao:
I guess I will have to buff up on my Disney trivia

Last time we went the food was pretty good. My son really enjoyed his salmon. They also have pretty good shrimp. The place is very fun but they do indeed have slow service at times. Just keep reminding yourself that you are on vacation and that you are not in a hurry! What you really need to try is the dessert, the Sparkling Volcano. OMG! It was huge and wonderful and I am not even a big chocolate fan. It was about 12-13 bucks but it took four of us to finish it off!

The food is OK. The bad reviews probably come from the fact its expensive and the price doesn't match the food maybe in some people's eyes. Expect pretty standard faire, regardless of the price. The dishes that sound kind of exotic aren't done particularly well, its all very average. You're going for the atmosphere really, which is or isn't going to be great for various people. I get bored of it kind of fast, I find the prices to be not too bad.

i love rainforest cafe. the food is good..its not AMAZING, but its good for the price. i love the experience you get there the most...its gorgeous and fun, and you'll have a good time. definitely get the volcano dessert if you go! its awesome!! we always get this platter with steak, ribs and coconut shrimp on it and its really really good. :thumbsup2

I love the RFC!! Such a fun place to eat.
I guess we've been lucky because everytime we've gone, the service has been fine. As for the food, I think it's good. Actually I think it's better then some of the food you can find in the parks.

Last time I was there I ordered this and really liked it:
Rainforest Pita Quesadillas - Grilled chicken, roasted peppers, caramelized onions and melted cheese on grilled pita bread, served with fresh pico de gallo and sour cream.

Have fun and I hope your visit there goes smoothly. :)

Before our September '07 DLR trip, we became members of the Safari Club on a visit to our local RFC. My son was very disturbed by the "wildlife", and by the time the food was ready, DS and DH were out in the mall's play area. I stuck around to pay and have things boxed up.

When we went to the Downtown Disney one, we sat closer to the entrance so the sounds weren't so overwhelming, requested that DS's food be brought out first, and things went MUCH better. Plus with the Safari Club membership, you get priority seating even without a reservation.

We're vegetarian, so we don't have a ton to eat there. DS really liked the kid's cheese pizza. Hubby and I aren't HUGE fans of the veggie burger. We wish the "planet earth pasta" or whatever it's called was vegetarian, b/c doesn't that SOUND like a veggie meal?

But our fave has been those quesadillas without the meat, and the big huge enormous plate of appetizer nachos (without the meat of course).

We went to the RFC back in Dec., It was GREAT!! I had the Chicken Fajita Plate, it was alot of Food!!!! We ordered the Volcano for Desert, A Must have!!!!!!!

TheParsec!

I guess I'm in the minority because I can't stand RFC. Long waits, bad food, overpriced. I really can't recommend anything except not going. Sorry.

And for those comparing it to Applebees or Chilis - you're probably right, but I don't like those places either.

Applebee's or Chili's? I can definitely deal with that! One thing I cannot stand is bad service. I am the type of person that will go home and contact the head office to complain.I have done it in the past. I think they assume that we will just go home and forget about it. I want to enjoy my vacation with my family bc I have put a lot of planning into it to make sure things are special. So, I have made no room in my plans for rude behavior.:thumbsup2
Hopefully things will be copacetic.
Thanks for all the ideas about entrees. If I was alone I would have done blue bayou or even Jazz Kitchen . I love creole influenced cuisine. :snooty:

Make sure you have a reservation. We went last November and we had reservations. We got their and there was a HUGE line. We asked ppl in line what it was for and they said to check in. We though, nuh-uh. So I went and stood in line while dh went to the counter and told them we had reservations do we have to wait in that line. They said no and they said it would still be about a 10 minute wait but they would call our name. So we waited around the lobby area which is a store so that was okay. But I thought I should warn you because there is some confusion (at least there was for us). There is an upstairs and a downstairs and we didn't know where we were going. Once we were called we went to the front desk and they gave us a piece of paper and we were going to be seated upstairs. There was another line on the stairs, so we still had to wait. BUT once we actually got seated we had a great server, he was very friendly and helpful. So if you can get through the first messy part, and actually get seated you should be alright. But of course it totally depends on the server you actually get so I can't say you'll have good service but thought I would share my experience.

sorry that was long winded.

There is an Appetizer. that the locals ordered with a coupon from a newsletter, or club. 2 adults ordered this refillable make your own flour tacos from things on the plate. Of course they didn't even share what they were getting. So, we visitors from afar, so far we don't have any such restaurant withing 300 miles of us?? Paid $130.00 for 3 drinks, 3 sandwiches, and 1 dessert. That still frys me!!

You can join there on the spot, and get the appetizer with ordered entrees. You won't be able to use the discount stuff that comes by mail and email later, unless you're going again at the right time, but at least you can take advantage of seating (unless it's an insanely busy time) and the appetizer at the time.

I've never been to the one in CA but have been to the one in AK, Toronto, Niagara Falls and back when they had one in Syracuse NY. I LOVE that place. I ALWAYS take the Chicken Fried Chicken with extra gravy. YUM.:lovestruc

We always go to RFC for dinner each trip. Both of my boys like their food. Last time, I got some sort of shrimp combo that was good. And, I just printed out a coupon for a free Volcano that was emailed recently from the club. So, we'll be there in August!

We were just at our local one on Monday. The food is pretty good; I had the barbecue chicken wrap. My older girls split a full rack of ribs, and my nieces each had a burger. They all said it was very good. DD6 loved the plain penne pasta with parmesan. It's expensive for the quality of food, but the safari club membership helps; we used it for the 10% off rather than a free appetizer. Our service has always been good, but that's because we're not at a packed DTD location, presumably.

Would the priority seating for Safari Club members be the same as having a reservation?

We really like the food there but have been turned off by the service. On our last trip we had reservations but we were told we'd still have to wait a half hour. We decided to pass. We went very early the next day and although there was no wait, there was also no one to serve us! It was hard to get our waiters attention and we waited forever for our food and then for the check. If we could eliminate the first hurdle of just getting into the restaurant, maybe I could be more forgiving about the rest.

Here's some Pics of the food & Drinks from when we went:

We have never done reservations there but with the Safari Club card we walk up, tell them our party size (it's only good for groups up to 6) of 4 and we are seated in about 10-30 min. We get the free appetizer because it's a better deal for our family, we have 2 kids that eat from the kids menu and since DBF and I share the free appetizer helps. :) We have had slow service but the food has always been good, the volcano is yummy but huge, we shared it with a group of 7 for DD8's b-day, I honestly don't think we even finished it.
