to give me 2 nights at a Marriott anywhere.

Apparently my friends sat through the presentation and put our names down as friends who might be interested.

So they call tonight saying there was a drawing and we have "won" 2 nights at a Marriott.....then they tell me they need to come out to my house to explain the "gift." She claimed there is no sales pitch and that they will simply ask for my "opinion."

This is a heavy duty vacuum sales pitch isn't it? And I am sure they will ask us for several other friends to write down.

Anyone deal with them?

Yes, they are going to try and sell you a Rainbow among other things.

We won some knives from Rainbow Vacuums many years ago :lmao: Yes, there is a "sales pitch" but it is in the form of your opinion on how dirty your carpets are :lmao: They will demonstrate their vacuum, which uses water and how much "dirt" it picks up. My suggestion to you would be to take a clear bowl, fill with water, add a teaspoon of dirt and see how cloudy the water is right before they show up. Then you will have something to compare how dirty your carpet really is. For $1600 or whatever they are charging now, not worth the cost. However, if you get some free hotel stays out of the deal, it's worth the hour to listen.

We bought this house with a CENTRAL vacuum cleaner system. And then we put in almost all hard wood flooring! :rotfl2:

There is no way I need a $1600 vacuum cleaner to clean my area rug!

I hate sales pitches and usually start out with a 'tude. I am thinking of canceling. I don't need two nights at a Marriott to sell out my friends and listen for an hour to how dirty my 8x10 area rug is.

I do have to say that the guy that came to our house was very polite. Actually, I think it would be funny for him to come to your house and see your "carpet" and see what he does (or she). :lmao:

Actually, she should roll up the area rug and put it away for the visit.

;)

That is just what I was thinking this evening!

If they put any water on my hardwoods they will be in for it!

I love the idea of having no rugs in the house when they come. Really shortens the sales talk. Plus they really couldn't take back their "prize."

:lmao: You have to do this now! We all want to hear about it when it is over :rotfl2: . I would also do my best to have my wood floors shining and sparkling when they go there. If you have any pets put them in another part of the house so the salesman won't know and can't try to work the "pet fur" angle.

I just have to chime in here. I have owned Rainbow vaccuums for 35 years and if the one I own today died I would purchase another. I have hardwood floors throughout my home. My first lasted well over 20 years, I paid $500 for it. I bought a new one 20 years ago, the rainbow guy lost a bet with me so I purchased it for $400, used it and then I gave it to my son who used it until 2 years ago. He never took care of it so it bit the dust and he bought another.

I understand that not everyone will spend that amount of money.............they are much more now, my sister just bought her second....... but for those of us who suffer allergies this unit is a lifesaver.

OP-if you really are not interested in having a demonstration just tell the guy that he is welcome to give you the tickets but there will be no purchase.

I'm curious, do you use it to clean your hardwoods?

Yes. The vaccuum has a base that is filled with water. When you vaccuum the dusy and dirt is trapped in the water so no dust particles escape. This is a powerful vaccuum. The floor tool is like any other that you use on bare floors. I also have a rug tool that has a separate motor. I seldom use it anymore but when I had area rugs I loved it.

I know that there is a lot of teasing about how the demo goes but honestly, there is a lot of dirt that comes out of rugs, cushions, etc. The machine does a very fgood job of cleaning allergins from teh air so you can use your flex spendning acount if your Dr writes a script. My DS breathes so much better when he uses this vaccum.

He brought it to his fiance's home because he was constantly congested there even though she vaccummed regularly and she was astonished what was in her rugs. He said that it is much better after using the Rainbow

My Mom's first vaccuum cleaner was a Rainbow, she got it before I was born so it was over 54 years ago.

Nancy,

I am sure it is a good vacuum cleaner, but we have a central vacuum system in our home and LOVE it! In fact, I hope to get another home with it when we move as this is what I will really miss if we don't get one.

I think that Central is wonderful and was in no way trying to sway people to purchase a Rainbow or that my option was the best one. It works for me but it is work, you have to empty and rinse the basin. I can tell you that my son was going to change for an upright...........until he was all congested at his GF. ;)

I have to say that I was crazy jealous when I saw my sister's new one...........mine is nowhere near as nice :lmao:

I have a ding dong neighbor who was given 5.00 for each name and number she provided to the Rainbow salesperson at her home. She ended up giving them her entire elementary school directory for a "massive" discount. We still curse her as they call every once in a while and push a hard sale over the phone.

Years ago my brother and his wife agreed to a Rainbow demo so that they could get a free trip to Hawaii. They thought there was no way they'd ever consider the vacuum and only agreed to watch the demo so they could get the "free" trip.

Once the guy was in their house though, they fell hook, line, and sinker. It was a really hard sell where the sales guy would not let up. My mom had arrived at their house while the sales pitch was going on. When she saw that my DB and his DW were not doing a good job of saying no to the salesperson, she went into the bathroom and called me to come over quick to talk my brother out of it!

I hung up with my mom and then called my DB and talked to him while I was en route to his house. I had to knock some sense into him about not spending this money that they didn't have (the sales guy was pushing a payment plan). When I got there, the sales guy saw that I was going to talk my brother out of it, so he asked to speak to my DB and his DW outside on the porch. I could hear him telling them not to listen to me and that this vacuum was the buy of a lifetime, etc...

I opened the door and said to my DB, "You will regret this for years. You cannot afford this, nor do you 'need' this thing." My brother finally told the guy no thanks. The Rainbow guy got so mad and used some choice words to tell us off. As he walked away, my brother said, "Hey, what about our free trip to Hawaii?" The guy didn't respond, he just got in his car. I walked over to his car window and said he owed them what he promised. He threw a sheet of paper out at me (as he peeled out) that had an 800 number on it to call for the "free" trip. Turns out the trip was not free at all. The hotel was free, but that was it -- after paying a $400 booking fee and their own airfare! :scared1:

My DB and his DW were very thankful after the guy left. My brother had this "What was I thinking??" moment and said he just couldn't tell the guy "no."

Maybe they don't do the "free trips" anymore and maybe they do just give the free hotel stays as advertised. Either way, be very careful with these sales people. Obviously they make a HUGE commission off of each sale. I know the OP doesn't want a Rainbow, nor do a majority of the other people who agree to watch the sales pitch, but many end up buying one because the pitch is well rehearsed and is good. For those that really want one, buy one on ebay and save yourselves a ton of money! Skip the sales pitch.

I also have a Rainbow (my 2nd one) and it is the best vacuum. I have mainly hardwood floors. I vacuum about twice a week, we don't wear shoes in the house and still that water will be so dirty! My DD has allergies and this has helped a lot. The only thing I hate about it is emptying the water.....especially now in the winter with all the deep snow......I just came in from emptying it and almost fell into a snowbank LOL.

I am a bit leary of ANYTHING that has to offer a "prize" to hear their sales pitch.

we bought a Miele with a true hepa.

works great.
