So the day we have scheduled for Universal next week says rain, rain, rain!

I was wondering about rain at Universal/IOA...

Do they close down a lot of the rides? We only have one day and we were wondering if we should consider replanning/cancelling?

Thanks in advance!

They are forecasting 40-60 % chance of thunderstorms. To me that just seems like they are starting to forecast the usual Florida summer. Most of the rides stay open unless there is heavy rain or lightning.:thumbsup2

Hi! I've actually been to Universal when it rained before, and i dont recall them closing the rides, becasue my brother rode the Incredible Hulk Rollercoaster while it was raining without it closing. But I think if it starts thundering/lightening, thats when they start to close them down. If I were you, I wouldnt take any chances, especially ife you only have one day there.:guilty: I would attempt to reschedule it :) Have fun!!! :yay:

First off...any forecast more than 48 hours out should not be trusted. Second...the Studios is great on a rainy day since just about everything is indoors. The coasters hurt when it rains hard. Third...rides are not closed unless there is lightning within five miles of the area.

I would not want to walk around in the rain but that's me. I would just wait until it's closer and make your decision then.

i have done the parks plenty of times when it has rained.

i prefer it to be sunny, but the rain clears the crowds out.

The parks are definitely a lot quieter once it starts raining.

It was supposed to rain last week, I believe, but it never did. We've been forecasted rain tons and tons of time and it never rains. Maybe you'll get lucky! ;)

It rained during our trip one day...the parks were very empty. Even emptier? The lines for the water rides!

We poncho'd up and took advantage of no lines for those rides. We were going to be damp and cold anyway, might as well get buckets of water dumped on our heads! :)

The great part about rain at IOA is there are no crowds, we walked right on every ride. They did close down Hulk and Dr. Doom because of lightning. And they close down those Pterydon flyers or whatever in Jurassic Park.
But the worst part about rain is that they don't do the little Spiderman, X-man parade thing and Spiderman doesn't come out for pictures at all until it stops raining.
My 2 yr old DS LOVES Spiderman and I was really bummed because I had dreamed of having him meet Spidey and getting some really great pictures... Hopefully you have better weather than we did!

Water rides, coasters, and Doctor Doom's Fearfall will all be shut down when there is heavy rain and/or lightning in the vicinity, as Metro West said.

In fact, only Seuss Landing, Forbidden Journey and Spider-Man are guaranteed to be open in thunderstorms (and maybe not even Seuss Trolley Ride).

Imagine if the majority of people in the park ran to Hogwarts when it started raining. The queue would be so long that it would be trickling back into Hogsmeade anyway! :rotfl:

I went Summer of 2007 when it rained and I just happened to be in the line for the Hulk, and almost near the front, everything was shut down. Talk about a dilemma, I waited almost 2 hours before they reopened. I didn't feel out of place, because everybody else waited because they didn't wanna go outside into the rain.
