O.K.,so i`m thinking of bringing my lovely wife to WDW for her birthday in late june.We know it might rain but can anyone tell me how it usually is this time of year?Is it only showers or does it rain all day?Do they close the pools every time it rains or just when there`s lightning? What`s the deal with birthday badges? Thanks again for all your help!!

We are going in mid-June ourselves. While I've never been to WDW in June before, I have been twice in August. Talk about rain, thunder and lightening!!! The pools will close during a thunderstorm. As will any outside attractions. Lightening can come up very quickly there, so better safe than sorry they figure. That's okay with me. My big piece of advice would be to have ponchos with you at all times. Especially in the afternoons. Just put them on and keep on trekking. We've had some pretty terrific times in the parks in the rain.

I can't help with the birthday badges but I'm sure someone here can. Have fun planning!

Ok as being a FL resident most of my life, here are my opinions. Yes around June - July you get the afternoon shower. This usually hits between 3-5 pm. Some times they last all evening but usually get the ground wet for a couple hours. As for the Thunder and Lightning yes we get the heavier storms about 1-3 times a week. And there is no real predicting the best time to come to avoid these. Since this week could be sunny and not a drop from the sky to the week after pouring every day and never seeing the sun.

We carry those emergency ponchos every time we go. There about $2 at walmart and beat paying $8.50

Without going all weatherman technical on you (not that I am a weatherman... or a man for that matter)... Here is the deal with Florida summertime weather. The East Coast Seabreeze comes across the state and collides with the westcoast seabreeze. Where ever these two meet on any given afternoon is where you are going to find the nasty weather. It is very common to have a prefectly clear blue sky when you enter an attraction and come out to a really bad storm. Typically the summer storms come in around 3:30-4pm and last about an hour or 2 (of course the potential is there to be earlier or later, but they are usually only a short period of time and then they are done). If the lightning is "with in range" (usually about a 10 miles range) the pools will close as well as all outdoor attractions within the park. They will not reopen until they have had X amount of time from the last clap of thunder (so even if you think it has cleared up it may still be within range).

Birthday badges are avalaible at all guest relations locations and are free of charge :)

Thanks for all the help guys.I think being there in the rain will be better than nova scotia fog! When do parks normally close this time of year?

Thanks!!

Well that is peak season so I would say MK around 10 or 11, Epcot 9:30, MGM 8 and AK 6

We go to WDW about 3 times a year. We are very use to going into an attraction and coming out with it storming or sometimes if at a particularily long attraction we can go in with sunny skies and come out with sunny skies but the ground soaking wet so we know it had stormed. On one trip last August we were there for only 4 days and it stormed, with thunder and lightening every day of the 4 days from around 3:00 - 7:00. We could see it coming in. It is funny you mention the pools because one day we were at the pool and there was a lifegard standing with his back to the pool which I thought was odd. So I kind of questioned what he was looking at and he told me he was watching the sky for the lightening in order to close the pool. He then assured me that he was specifically assigned this task and that other lifegaurds were watching the pool. (I assured him I wasn't questioning his job, I was just curious)

Thanks Fishin I will cause I will be in the parks in 4 days WOOHOOOOO!!!!

As a former lifeguard in FL we would almost alway have on a tv with the weather channel or NOAA radio. We still got paid for a full day even if we closed early so if we heard any kind of bang we closed.

Its usually an hour after the last lighting strike that they will re open. Now they wont close if its just raining just for Thunder and Lightning.
