What is there to do at WDW when it rains?!
I am becoming quite depressed at the weather forecast for the upcoming week at DW. We leave this Thursday for our first family trip and were planning on the MNSSHP on the 4th...Looks like the forecast is rain, rain and more rain...

Any tips on how to enjoy a vacation (we are staying at FW cabins) at DW in the RAIN???!

Thanks for any encouragement!

Put on your rain gear and your water sandals and go out and enjoy!!! There are lots of locals (and folks that don't know better) that will be scared away by the rain. The crowds will be low, and about 80% of the attractions at WDW can stay open in the rain. Lightning drops that figure down to about 70%.

What a perfect time to ride Kali River Rapids. Your already wet!!

I'm a local & I don't let the rain stop me!!! This time of year the rain usually goes past quickly - say within 30 minutes to an hour - then it cools down some.

Take some ponchos, wear sandals that repel the water, and GO GO GO!!!

Unless there is some severe lightning, you shouldn't have any problems. Besides, there are plenty of places to duck into in the parks.

DH & I prefer the parks when it's raining...there are usually lighter crowds.

I appreciate the quick responses and the charge to make the best of the weather! I just hope the MNSSHP is nice and dry as well as at least sing-a-long with Chip and Dale at FW! thanks again

We just came back last week from spending 6 rainy days at the Fort!! :goodvibes
Buy some ponchos, bring an umbrella and be brave!!! :thumbsup2

We actually got lucky and missed a lot of the rain by being in an attraction or dining!! :)
But still there was one day at MK it rained and rained for quite a bit. We just made the most of it and had a ton of fun!! :yay:

We never hid in the cabin!!! :teeth:

You know, every single time I have gotten wet from rain .... I dried off!

I'm with the PPs - just grab a poncho on your way to the parks and enjoy the fact that everyone else stayed home!!!

I have to agree with the Poncho's...It rained on us while we were there and a lot of people fled when they saw rain..We welcomed it. As you can see from my pics, the kids don't mind the rain!!!

Do the right thing, and head to the BAR!

First off, I would like to second Gatordad's recommendation.

Secondly, as long as you don't mind getting wet, it's only rain! Now if it's lightning, that's a different story, and you should get indoors as quickly as possible. Yesterday we had a wicked thunderstorm on the east coast of Florida, lightning was making my walls shake.

I mean, you're in Disney, and it's only rain! Eventually you'll dry off, the rain showers normally don't last very long. So even if you really don't want to get wet, you won't have to stay inside very long. And Disney normally is pretty good about having stuff to do inside ;)

First, you need to dress for it. That means good ponchos with hoods, quick drying fabrics, and waterproof shoes. I prefer Tevas, I've seen lots of Keen sandals, other people swear by Crocs (which I think feel NASTY on my feet when wet). Really, any Disney vacation is a well disguised LONG hiking trip. I dress like I'm going onto the Appalachian Trail, and carry about the same stuff, to boot! :-)

Second, you need to focus on the indoor aspect of all the things there are to do in the parks. A very small percentage of attractions are outdoors.

Third, it really won't be raining all day and all night long unless there's a tropical system parked over your head, or it's a winter cold front, which it's too early in the year for right now. I imagine the forecasted rain that you are worried about will be afternoon and evening stuff, so if you can do outdoors things in the morning, you should experience a trip half full of sunshine.

You nailed that Jello to the wall :cool1: :cool1: :thumbsup2 . Don't worry about what you can't change, adapt and move on and remember a rainy day at WDW is better than the best weather day anywhere you can imagine.
